DM Automation editorialUpdated October 26, 202619 min read

Instagram DM automation for artists in 2026 is comment-to-DM that sends a PRINT, COMMISSION, or ORIGINAL URL, not a second gallery CRM. Someone comments PRINT, COMMISSION, ORIGINAL, WAITLIST, SHOP, or PRICE on a Reel, or replies to a story with the same word. The DM arrives in seconds with one URL you already own: Shopify, Etsy, Gumroad, a commission Google form, a waitlist, a Stripe or PayPal deposit link. Stripe or PayPal still process a deposit if that URL is a payment link. The shop still holds the SKU. The automation tool only sends the link.

Rank the stack in this order: DM Automation first (this site: free 100 DMs/month forever, Starter $19/month or $15/month billed annually for 2,000 DMs, Pro $49/month or $39/month billed annually for 3 accounts and 15,000 DMs), InstantDM second (Legend Pro $9.99/month billed yearly with unlimited DMs up to 800/hour, free forever 500 DM automations/month, instantdm.com/pricing, October 2026), ManyChat third if collectors also need WhatsApp. Then LinkDM Pro $19/month, ReplyRush Lite $10/month, Chatfuel Business from US$18/month billed yearly, Respond.io Starter $79/month, SetSmart Light $25/month.

This page is the studio job: painters, illustrators, ceramicists, printmakers, muralists, and tattoo-adjacent flash artists who sell work, not session photography. Photographers live at Instagram DM automation for photographers. Musicians live at Instagram DM automation for musicians. Own digital files live at Sell digital products in Instagram DMs. Here the keywords are PRINT, COMMISSION, ORIGINAL, WAITLIST, SHOP, PRICE, MURAL, and FLASH.

Prices below come from each vendor’s public pricing page, checked 26 October 2026, except ManyChat’s public table which we quote from Featurebase’s write-up of ManyChat’s 2 March 2026 plans (Manychat Pricing 2026) and link to ManyChat pricing. manychat.com/pricing still returns 403 from this host.

What is Instagram DM automation for artists?

Instagram DM automation for artists is software that replies, through Meta’s official API, when someone already commented, replied to a story, or messaged the studio account. The usual trigger is a keyword on a process Reel, a drop story, or a “two originals left” carousel. The usual action is a private DM that holds one URL.

It is not a second inventory system. It does not replace Shopify, Etsy, Big Cartel, or the commission spreadsheet. It does not hold the edition count or store a collector CRM. Instagram Direct is not a certificate of authenticity. Do not let a bot invent a price that is not on the listing. Send the shop URL, a dated PDF, or a human reply. It is not a growth bot. Tools that ask for the Instagram password, then message strangers who liked a painting, are how studio accounts pick up restrictions. Official API tools only talk to people who already contacted the account. Meta’s rules live in the Instagram messaging docs.

Art comments look similar on a Reel and are not the same URL.

  1. Print / shop. PRINT, SHOP, POSTER, EDITION. The DM holds Shopify, Etsy, or Big Cartel. The shop still holds stock.
  2. Commission. COMMISSION, CUSTOM, PETPORTRAIT. The DM holds a Google form or Typeform (size, deadline, reference photos, deposit). Not the print SKU.
  3. Original. ORIGINAL, AVAILABLE, HOLD. The DM holds the listing or a waitlist form. One object. When it sells, turn the keyword off that hour.
  4. Waitlist. WAITLIST, DROP, RESTOCK. The DM holds Kit, Mailchimp, or a Google form. Email still lives in the list tool.
  5. Price. PRICE, INQUIRE. For originals, send the listed price or “a human will quote.” Do not invent a number in the bot.
  6. Mural / install. MURAL, WALL, INSTALL. The DM holds a project form, not a $40 print.
  7. Flash / tattoo-adjacent. FLASH, BOOK. If you actually tattoo, send the studio scheduler. If you only sell flash prints, send the shop. Do not mix them.

A Business or Creator account is required. Personal accounts cannot connect. If you use an affiliate print-on-demand link, disclose it on the public post. A private DM does not replace a caption disclosure.

How we ranked these tools for studio inboxes

Five criteria, same weight for every product:

  1. Comment-to-DM that can send a shop or form URL - Keyword on a post or Reel produces a DM in seconds.
  2. Story replies - “Reply PRINT” on a drop story still converts. Feed comments are not enough.
  3. Official Instagram API - Instagram login, not a password form.
  4. Cost of a spike - What 2,000 PRINT comments in a day costs. Contact meters punish drop volume. DM buckets don’t.
  5. Time to first live send - Minutes with a guided path vs a week mapping a chatbot.

Last updated: 26 October 2026.

We sell DM Automation. Other tool prices are taken from those vendors’ public pages or a dated public quote of those pages. Respond.io is in the list because some galleries already live there. It is not ranked above ManyChat. SetSmart stays on the tracking list.

1. DM Automation - Fastest first PRINT send at $19 Starter

DM Automation is the product on this site. Free forever: 1 Instagram account, 100 automated DMs a month, comment-to-DM, story replies, keyword triggers, welcome message, iOS and Android. Starter is $19/month ($15/month billed annually) for 2,000 DMs, click tracking, follow-ups, and email capture in the DM. Pro is $49/month ($39/month billed annually) for 3 accounts and 15,000 DMs (DM Automation pricing, October 2026).

You pick a keyword. You paste one shop or form URL in the DM. Starter can follow up if they didn’t tap, and it can ask for an email in the thread. Click tracking tells you whether the print link was dead. The shop still holds the edition. Starter is not Shopify.

Where it fits: first studio automation today, one account, a drop you can count. Where it does not: 100 DMs on free will not cover a 2,000-comment print drop. Upgrade to Starter or Pro before you post the noisy process Reel. DM Automation does not print the edition, does not ship, and does not process the collector’s card.

2. InstantDM - $9.99 Legend Pro for unlimited DMs

InstantDM is number two on this site. Legend Pro is $9.99/month billed yearly with unlimited DMs (up to 800 an hour), Instagram plus Facebook, and story, Live, and next-post triggers. Trendsetter is $24.99/month billed yearly for the flow editor, Meta Ads, API, and webhooks. Trendsetter Pro is $49.99/month billed yearly. Free forever is 500 DM automations a month with no card. Paid plans also offer a 7-day free trial. Multi Starter is $160/year for 3 accounts (instantdm.com/pricing, October 2026).

For artists, the job this slot does well is the same job as DM Automation: keyword on a Reel, shop URL in the DM. The difference is the bill after a drop. Unlimited DMs on a flat $9.99 yearly-billed plan means 2,000 PRINT comments in a day does not fill a monthly bucket. You still respect Meta’s throughput.

It can send a payment link when you sell a commission deposit. Stripe or PayPal still process the card. InstantDM sends the link. That is a different keyword from PRINT. Keep COMMISSION on the form. Keep PRINT on the shop. Unlimited DMs is not unlimited stock. When the edition hits zero, turn PRINT off.

3. ManyChat - Multi-channel canvas, contact pricing

ManyChat is number three. It is the right pick when Instagram is not the only inbox. Pro is $29/month billed yearly ($39 billed monthly) with 2,500 active contacts, broadcasts, and AI conversations on the 2 March 2026 plan set (Featurebase, quoting ManyChat’s public table). Free is 25 active contacts per month. Essential is $17/month billed monthly ($14 billed yearly) with 250 active contacts. Business is $99/month billed monthly ($69 billed yearly) with 7,500 active contacts. Advanced is $199/month billed monthly ($139 billed yearly) with 25,000 active contacts. AI is included on Pro and above. Extra contacts are billed on top. See ManyChat pricing.

Artists buy ManyChat when WhatsApp is already how overseas collectors talk, or when a flowchart has to ask “A3 or A2?” then ship the matching Shopify variant. That canvas is real. It is also why first-time setup takes longer than a guided comment-to-DM form.

The cost trap is contacts, not DMs. If a drop produces 2,000 new people, those people can stay on the contact meter. A flat Instagram DM bucket bills the messages. ManyChat bills the people. If you do not need WhatsApp, you are paying for a suite you will not open. Where it wins: WhatsApp plus Instagram. Where it loses: PRINT → one shop URL.

4. LinkDM - $19 Pro for drop volume

LinkDM Free is $0 for 1,000 DMs/month on 1 account. Story auto-reply is on Free. Comment auto-reply is Pro. Pro is $19/month for 25,000 DMs on 3 accounts. Platinum+ is $99/month for 300,000 DMs on 10 accounts (LinkDM pricing, October 2026).

Published caps help during a drop. 1,000 DMs is enough to learn if PRINT converts on stories. Free will not fire comment auto-reply. Pro at 25,000 DMs is the plan that survives a real spike without an emergency upgrade while you are on a Live studio tour.

LinkDM is built around sending links in DMs. That matches the print job more tightly than a full CRM inbox. Where it fits: one SKU per post, high comment volume, invoice in DMs not contacts. Where it does not: WhatsApp, a shared gallery inbox, or an AI that quotes a mural. Do not buy Platinum+ because a Reel “might go viral.”

5. ReplyRush - $10 Lite if the studio is still small

ReplyRush Free is 1,500 DMs/month. Lite is $10/month for 7,500 DMs. Boost is $25/month for 40,000 DMs. Max is $100/month for 400,000 DMs (ReplyRush pricing, October 2026). Comment auto-reply is not on the free plan.

For a new studio account, $10 Lite is the cheapest paid Instagram bucket that still covers a decent drop. 7,500 DMs is more than DM Automation Starter’s 2,000, at a lower sticker. Starter still wins if you want click tracking and email capture inside the DM on this site’s product.

Use ReplyRush when the only job is comment-to-DM and you want the lowest paid start. If your whole plan is “comment PRINT,” skip Free and start on Lite, or start on DM Automation free where comment-to-DM is included at 100 DMs.

6. Chatfuel - Paper, size, and shipping questions

Chatfuel Business is US$18/month billed yearly (US$216/year) with US$20 of AI credits per month. Agency S is US$90/month billed yearly. Every plan starts with a free trial, no card (Chatfuel pricing, October 2026).

Chatfuel is the studio pick when the first DM cannot be a single URL. Prints are the obvious case. The collector comments PRINT, then asks if it is giclée, then asks if you ship to Canada. A static listing still helps. An AI agent that answers from your caption notes helps more.

Do not use Chatfuel to invent edition counts. The live listing is the stock. The bot should send the shop URL and answer questions you actually know. If you do not know whether A2 still exists, open Shopify instead of guessing. Where it fits: size and paper FAQ after PRINT. Where it does not: you only needed one shop URL. Chatfuel is not your gallery. Inventory and checkout stay on Shopify or Etsy.

7. Respond.io - Shared desk, wrong first studio tool

Respond.io Starter is $79/month ($948/year billed yearly) with a 7-day trial (respond.io pricing, October 2026). Growth is $159/month billed monthly.

Where it fits: a gallery with two people sharing an inbox across Instagram and WhatsApp. Humans send the commission form. That is a desk, not a keyword.

Where it does not: a solo painter who needed PRINT → Shopify. $79 Starter is a seat-and-contact meter. It is not ranked above ManyChat. It stays on the tracking list because some teams already live there.

8. SetSmart - AI qualifier, wrong meter for PRINT

SetSmart Light is $25/month for 250 AI messages, with no free trial. Pro is $97/month for 1,000 AI messages, with a 7-day trial (SetSmart pricing, October 2026).

Where it fits: a muralist who wants an AI thread that collects wall size, city, and a booking URL for a paid site visit. That visit is not this page.

Where it does not: PRINT on a drop Reel. You would be paying AI messages to send one Shopify URL. 250 AI messages on Light does not survive a 2,000-comment spike.

SetSmart stays on this site’s tracking list. It is not Shopify and it is not ranked above ManyChat. If the Reel is a $8,000 mural, send the project form on MURAL. Keep PRINT on the poster.

Which keywords should never share a flow?

PRINT vs COMMISSION. A $45 poster is not a $900 custom portrait. Two keywords. Mixing them sends a form to someone who wanted a SKU.

ORIGINAL vs WAITLIST. An available painting is a listing. A sold-out drop is a list tool. When the object sells, switch ORIGINAL off. Don’t leave a dead “available” hop live overnight.

PRINT vs photographer BOOK. Session photography lives at Instagram DM automation for photographers. A studio that also shoots clients should not fire PRINT on a headshot Reel.

COMMISSION vs musician merch. Band merch lives at Instagram DM automation for musicians.

SHOP vs ClickBank COURSE. Info-product hops are a different network. See ClickBank affiliate links via Instagram comment-to-DM.

PRINT vs Stan checkout. A Stan Store product is a different job. See Stan Store vs Instagram DM automation.

Write the public comment reply in a short line. “Sent you the print” is enough. Templates live at Instagram DM templates. Story triggers live at Instagram story reply automation. The generic trigger is comment-to-DM automation.

What does a PRINT-drop spike cost?

A process Reel at 2,000 PRINT comments, one DM each:

  • DM Automation Starter: 2,000 DMs/month at $19. 2,000 fills it. A second drop the same month does not fit. Pro is 15,000 DMs at $49. Free is 100 DMs. Free does not fit.
  • InstantDM Legend Pro: $9.99/month billed yearly, unlimited DMs up to 800 an hour. The spike does not change the bill. The free plan is 500 DM automations/month. 2,000 does not fit Free. Upgrade before you post the noisy drop.
  • LinkDM Pro: 25,000 DMs at $19/month. 2,000 fits. Free’s 1,000 does not, and Free has no comment auto-reply.
  • ReplyRush Lite: 7,500 DMs at $10/month. 2,000 fits. Free’s 1,500 does not, and Free has no comment auto-reply.
  • ManyChat Pro: 2,500 active contacts at $29/month billed yearly. 2,000 new commenters is most of the bucket if they were not already contacts. Essential’s 250 contacts does not fit.
  • Chatfuel Business: US$18/month yearly plus the US$20 AI credits if the flow used AI turns. A static Shopify URL should not need those credits.
  • Respond.io Starter: $79/month. Wrong meter for one print URL.
  • SetSmart Light: 250 AI messages at $25. Wrong meter for PRINT.

Ceramics, mural, and original Reels spike differently. A mug drop might pull 400 SHOP comments. A $2,400 original might pull 80 PRICE comments plus “can you hold it.” A mural Reel at 40 MURAL comments is a free-plan test. Size the plan for the noisest PRINT. A 400-comment mug Reel on Starter still leaves room. A 2,000-comment poster Reel on Starter does not.

What floor rules can the tool not save you from?

The edition sold out and PRINT stayed on. Collectors get a 404. Turn the keyword off when stock hits zero. Point them at WAITLIST if you have one.

The commission form asks for too much in the first DM. Size, deadline, city, deposit. Not their life story. Not a bot that “designs” the piece.

You quoted a price the listing does not show. PRICE should send the listed number or a human. Inventing $400 in a DM when the site says $650 is how refunds start.

The caption skipped affiliate disclosure on print-on-demand. If PRINT is a Printful or similar hop, disclose on the public post.

Two tools on the same keyword during a switch. Two DMs. One tool, then cutover.

Password apps that message people who liked the painting. Official API only. See the Instagram messaging docs. If a warning followed a password app, read “We suspect automated behavior.”

You bought an AI setter to send one Shopify URL. Wrong meter. SetSmart Light at 250 AI messages is not a drop plan.

A shortener, a dead Etsy listing, or a “limited” claim with no count. Send the listing. Let the shop show stock. Test US vs EU shipping taps.

ORIGINAL and PRINT on the same carousel. One object vs an edition. Split the posts or split the keywords.

Who is each tool for?

One artist, Instagram only, testing. DM Automation free (100 DMs) or the 500-automation free plan in slot two.

One artist, noisy PRINT drops. The $9.99 yearly-billed unlimited plan in slot two, or LinkDM Pro at $19/month, or DM Automation Starter at $19/month. Use Pro on this site if you need 15,000 DMs or 3 accounts.

Collectors already on WhatsApp. ManyChat is number three.

Tiny paid budget, comment-to-DM required. ReplyRush Lite $10/month for 7,500 DMs.

Published cap on 3 accounts. LinkDM Pro $19/month for 25,000 DMs.

Paper and shipping FAQ. Chatfuel Business from US$18 yearly.

Gallery shared inbox. Respond.io from $79 Starter.

Paid mural consults. SetSmart from $25 Light. That is not the print job.

How do I choose in 10 minutes?

  1. Start with DM Automation (own tool on this site). Free 100 DMs/month, Starter $19, Pro $49 for 3 accounts.
  2. If you want unlimited DMs on a flat $9.99 yearly-billed plan, InstantDM is number two.
  3. If collectors also need WhatsApp in the same builder, ManyChat is number three.
  4. Lowest paid Instagram comment-to-DM: ReplyRush Lite $10.
  5. Published cap on 3 accounts: LinkDM Pro $19. Remember comment auto-reply is Pro, not Free.
  6. FAQ bot: Chatfuel Business from US$18 yearly.
  7. Shared gallery desk: Respond.io from $79.
  8. Consult AI thread: SetSmart from $25, usually the wrong first print tool.

If two tools fit, pick the meter that matches last month’s noisest drop. A quiet original week and a viral poster Reel are not the same month. None of these vendors are Shopify. The shop is the shop. These tools send the URL.

How do I set up artist comment-to-DM?

Switch the Instagram account to Business or Creator. Connect the DM tool through Instagram login. If a form asks for your password, stop. Is Instagram DM automation safe? is the API vs password-tool line.

Pick one live SKU or one live form. PRINT gets the Shopify or Etsy URL. COMMISSION gets the form. ORIGINAL gets the listing. WAITLIST gets the list URL. Put the keyword on screen. Publish. Comment from a second account. Confirm the DM arrives and the URL still opens the right page.

Keep the public reply short (“sent you the print”). The first DM should be under four lines: the URL, one fit note if you must (“A3 giclée, ships in a tube”), and one next keyword if a second object was on camera. Do not paste the whole shop, a commission form, and a mural intake in the same thread.

If you also sell a PDF coloring book, that file can travel with a payment link. InstantDM can send that link. Stripe or PayPal still process the card. Keep PRINT on the poster SKU.

Lead capture that is only an email lives at Build an email list from Instagram DMs. Ecommerce shops that are not studios live at Instagram DM automation for ecommerce.

What should never go in the first artist DM?

A 14-image lookbook. A “which vibe are you” quiz. A fake scarcity timer. A bot that draws the commission from three emojis. Collectors came for one object. Send that object.

Certificates of authenticity, packing videos, and care cards can live on the listing. The DM is the hop. If they need a human for a $4,000 original, PRICE should wake a person, not an AI mural setter.

FAQ

What is the best Instagram DM automation for artists in 2026?

Comment-to-DM on an official API tool. Rank: DM Automation first (this site: free 100 DMs/month, Starter $19/month, Pro $49/month for 3 accounts), the $9.99 yearly-billed unlimited plan second, ManyChat third if you need WhatsApp. Then LinkDM, ReplyRush, Chatfuel, Respond.io, and SetSmart. Paste one shop or form URL. Ranked 26 October 2026.

Can I sell art prints through automated Instagram DMs?

Yes. Put PRINT on the Reel and send the Shopify, Etsy, or Big Cartel URL in the DM. The shop still holds stock and checkout. Stripe or PayPal still process the card if that is how the shop bills. The automation tool only sends the link.

Should commissions use the same keyword as prints?

No. COMMISSION sends a form. PRINT sends a SKU. Mixing them sends a $45 poster to someone who wanted a $900 portrait, or a form to someone who wanted to buy tonight.

Is comment-to-DM allowed on Instagram for artists?

Yes, through the official Messaging API, when you reply to people who commented, replied to a story, or messaged you. Cold DMs to people who never contacted you are not that feature. See Meta’s Instagram messaging docs.

How much does InstantDM cost for an artist?

Legend Pro is $9.99/month billed yearly with unlimited DMs up to 800 an hour. Trendsetter is $24.99/month billed yearly. Trendsetter Pro is $49.99/month billed yearly. Free is 500 DM automations/month. Multi Starter is $160/year for 3 accounts (pricing, October 2026). It sends the shop or form URL. It does not print editions or process cards.

What keyword should I use on a print-drop Reel?

One short word you also put on screen: PRINT, SHOP, or EDITION. Test from a second account. If people comment “link” while you required “SHOPNOW,” you wrote the wrong keyword.

Will a viral drop blow up my ManyChat bill?

It can. ManyChat prices active contacts. A spike of new people can move you up a tier even if each person got one DM. Flat DM buckets meter messages instead. Pro is $29/month billed yearly for 2,500 contacts on the 2 March 2026 table (Featurebase). See ManyChat pricing.

Can I use this instead of a photographer booking tool?

No. Session photography is a different job. Use Instagram DM automation for photographers for BOOK. This page is studio inventory and commissions.

What happens when the original sells?

Turn ORIGINAL off. Point remaining comments at WAITLIST if you have a list. Leaving a sold listing live is how you spend DMs on a 404.

Do I need WhatsApp to sell prints?

No. WhatsApp is why ManyChat is number three. If collectors already live there, use it. If they don’t, a flat Instagram DM bucket is enough.
