DM Automation editorialUpdated October 23, 202617 min read

Instagram DM automation for restaurants in 2026 is comment-to-DM that sends a menu PDF, a reservation URL, or an hours page, not a second POS. Someone comments MENU, TABLE, HOURS, or ALLERGY on a Reel. The DM arrives in seconds with one URL you already own: OpenTable, Resy, Toast, Square for Restaurants, a PDF menu, a Google Business hours page. Stripe or PayPal still process a deposit if you take one. The reservation product still holds the table. The automation tool only sends the link.

Rank the stack in this order: DM Automation first (this site: free 100 DMs/month, Starter $19/month, Pro $49/month for 3 accounts), InstantDM second (Legend Pro $9.99/month billed yearly, free forever 500 DM automations/month, InstantDM pricing, October 2026), ManyChat third if regulars also need WhatsApp. Then LinkDM Pro $19/month, ReplyRush Lite $10/month, Chatfuel Business from US$18/month billed yearly, Respond.io Starter $79/month, SetSmart Light $25/month.

This page is the restaurant job. The mixed local-shop page lives at Instagram DM automation for local businesses. Beauty chairs live at Instagram DM automation for beauty brands. Same vendors, different URLs: here the keywords are MENU, TABLE, HOURS, ALLERGY, DELIVERY, and CATERING, not BOOK for a salon.

Prices below come from each vendor’s public pricing page, checked 23 October 2026, except ManyChat’s public table which we quote from Featurebase’s write-up of ManyChat’s 2 March 2026 plans (Manychat Pricing 2026) and link to ManyChat pricing. manychat.com/pricing still returns 403 from this host.

What is Instagram DM automation for restaurants?

Instagram DM automation for restaurants is software that replies, through Meta’s official API, when someone already commented, replied to a story, or messaged the restaurant account. The usual trigger is a keyword on a food Reel, a Saturday special story, or a patio photo. The usual action is a private DM that holds one URL.

It is not a POS. It does not replace Toast, Square for Restaurants, Clover, or a ticket printer. It does not 86 a dish. It does not manage 86 boards.

It is not OpenTable or Resy. Those products still hold the table. The DM can send people there. It does not seat them.

It is not Google Business Profile. Maps, reviews, and the hours Google shows still live there. The DM can send people to that page. It does not replace it.

It is not a growth bot. Tools that ask for the Instagram password, then message strangers who liked a sandwich photo, are how restaurants pick up restrictions. Official API tools only talk to people who already contacted the account. Meta’s rules live in the Instagram messaging docs.

Restaurant comments look similar on a Reel and are not the same URL.

  1. Menu. MENU, LIST, PDF, TODAY. The DM holds a PDF or a page. Not a 40-item paste inside the thread. Update the file when the specials change.
  2. Table / reservation. TABLE, BOOK, RESERVE, SATURDAY. The DM holds OpenTable, Resy, Tock, SevenRooms, or the house form. The reservation product still holds the cover.
  3. Hours / location. HOURS, OPEN, ADDRESS, PARKING, PATIO. The DM holds a page with times, a map pin, and parking notes. Update this the week you change hours.
  4. Allergen / kitchen. ALLERGY, VEGAN, GLUTEN, NUT. Do not let a bot invent a safe plate. The DM should say “message us here and a human will confirm” or send a dated allergen PDF. Wrong answers here are not a marketing problem.
  5. Delivery / pickup. DELIVERY, UBER, PICKUP, TOAST. The DM holds the delivery listing or the pickup form. Do not mix this with TABLE.
  6. Catering / private dining. CATER, PRIVATE, EVENTS. The DM holds a form, not a price invented in Instagram.

A Business or Creator account is required. Personal accounts cannot connect. If the restaurant is still on the chef’s personal profile, that is the first ticket.

Restaurant comments are high intent. People type TABLE because they watched you plate a dish, not because they want a coupon blast. If the DM takes twenty minutes, they have already reserved the next place on the same block.

Do not mix MENU and TABLE on one keyword. A PDF and a Saturday 7pm slot are different jobs.

How we ranked these tools for restaurants

Five criteria, same weight for every product:

  1. Comment-to-DM with a menu, table, or hours URL - Keyword on a post or Reel produces a DM in seconds.
  2. Story replies - “Reply TABLE” on a same-day story has to work. Dinner demand is tonight, not next month.
  3. Official Instagram API - Instagram login, not a password form.
  4. Cost of a spike - What 800 TABLE comments on a viral food Reel costs. Flat DM buckets beat per-contact bills when a special hits.
  5. Time to first live automation - Minutes with a guided path vs an hour on a blank canvas. A manager should not need a 12-step builder to send a menu.

Last updated: 23 October 2026.

We sell DM Automation. Other tool prices are taken from those vendors’ public pages or a dated public quote of those pages. Respond.io is in the list because some groups already live there. It is not ranked above ManyChat. SetSmart stays on the tracking list even though an AI setter is usually the wrong shape for a dining room.

Respond.io: respond.io/pricing. SetSmart: setsmart.io/pricing. ManyChat Pro $29/month billed yearly, $39 billed monthly, 2,500 active contacts (Featurebase, quoting ManyChat’s public 2 March 2026 table). Source: ManyChat pricing.

LinkDM Free includes Instagram DM automation and story auto-reply. Comment auto-reply is a Pro feature (LinkDM pricing, October 2026). ReplyRush Free is 1,500 DMs/month without comment auto-reply (ReplyRush pricing, October 2026).

1. DM Automation - Fastest first MENU, TABLE, or HOURS keyword

DM Automation is the product on this site. Free forever: 1 Instagram account, 100 automated DMs a month, comment-to-DM, story replies, keyword triggers, welcome message, iOS and Android. Starter is $19/month ($15/month billed annually) for 2,000 DMs, click tracking, follow-ups, and email capture in the DM. Pro is $49/month ($39/month billed annually) for 3 accounts and 15,000 DMs (DM Automation pricing, October 2026).

The restaurant switch is short if the live job is one keyword and one URL. Connect a Business or Creator account through Instagram login. Pick the food Reel. Set MENU or TABLE, not both. Write the public comment reply (“sent you the menu”) and the private DM with the PDF or OpenTable URL. Publish. Comment from a second phone to test. Screenshot the DM. Show the floor manager.

Where it fits: one location, Instagram-first, you want a free plan that is not 25 contacts.

Where it does not: 100 DMs/month on free will not cover a viral dumpling Reel. Upgrade before you post the noisy special, or pick a bigger published bucket (LinkDM Pro at 25,000 DMs). If regulars already live on WhatsApp, ManyChat is number three. If a group already runs a shared inbox across five locations, Respond.io is the desk, not the first keyword.

The concession is honest. DM Automation is not Toast. It does not 86 a dish. It does not do WhatsApp. That is why ManyChat stays number three.

Click tracking on Starter tells you whether MENU taps actually opened the PDF. If they did not, the file is too heavy, the link is wrong, or the caption promised a different menu than the one you pasted.

2. InstantDM - $9.99 Legend Pro when a food Reel spikes

InstantDM is number two on this site. Legend Pro is $9.99/month billed yearly with unlimited DMs (up to 800 an hour), Instagram plus Facebook, and story, Live, and next-post triggers. Trendsetter is $24.99/month billed yearly for the flow editor, Meta Ads, API, and webhooks. Trendsetter Pro is $49.99/month billed yearly. Free forever is 500 DM automations a month. Paid plans also offer a 7-day free trial, no card (instantdm.com/pricing, October 2026). Multi Starter is $160/year for 3 accounts.

Food Reels spike in a way salon Reels often do not. One pasta video at 6pm can produce hundreds of MENU comments before the dinner rush. A contact-billed tool treats those people as CRM seats. Unlimited DMs on a flat $9.99 yearly-billed plan means the spike does not change the bill. You still respect Meta’s throughput. You do not pay per diner forever.

It sends payment links in DMs. Stripe or PayPal still process a tasting-menu deposit if you use a payment link. InstantDM is not a checkout and not OpenTable.

Use InstantDM when you want unlimited DMs on a small flat bill. Use LinkDM when you prefer a published monthly DM cap. Use ManyChat when WhatsApp has to sit in the same canvas. Use DM Automation when you want this site’s guided form and a $19 Starter with click tracking.

A second InstantDM mention belongs here because “unlimited DMs” is not “unlimited tables.” The reservation product still has to say no when Saturday is full. Change the DM to a waitlist URL the same afternoon.

3. ManyChat - Keep it if regulars already WhatsApp

ManyChat is number three. Pro is $29/month billed yearly ($39 billed monthly) with 2,500 active contacts on the 2 March 2026 plan set (Featurebase, quoting ManyChat’s public table). Free is 25 active contacts per month. Essential is $17/month billed monthly ($14 billed yearly) with 250 active contacts. Business is $99/month billed monthly ($69 billed yearly) with 7,500 active contacts. Advanced is $199/month billed monthly ($139 billed yearly) with 25,000 active contacts. AI is included on Pro and above on the new model. Extra contacts are billed on top. See ManyChat pricing.

Keep ManyChat when Instagram is one channel among WhatsApp and the dining room already texts specials there. Leave ManyChat when you only needed MENU on a Reel and the contact meter is the thing you came here to escape.

The cost trap is contacts, not DMs. If a Reel produces 800 new people, those people can stay on the contact meter. Featurebase’s worked example of a 10,000-contact ecommerce brand on Business plus overages plus WhatsApp delivery lands at $307.50/month in their October 2026 article. That is an example, not your quote. A neighborhood restaurant will not look like that. A group with a viral location Reel might.

Where it wins: WhatsApp plus Instagram, team routing, a flowchart you already built for waitlists.

Where it loses: a single MENU keyword billed as 800 new contacts.

4. LinkDM - $19 Pro if one location Reel is loud

LinkDM Free is 1,000 DMs/month on 1 account. Pro is $19/month for 25,000 DMs on 3 accounts. Platinum+ is $99/month for 300,000 DMs on 10 accounts (LinkDM pricing, October 2026).

Free will cover a quiet week of HOURS. Free will not cover a weekend special if comment auto-reply is the public half, because that checkbox sits on Pro. Story auto-reply is on Free.

Where it fits: you want the invoice to say DMs, and one Reel already proved the volume.

Where it does not: WhatsApp, a shared support desk, or an allergen bot.

Do not buy Platinum+ because you have ten private-dining inquiries. Buy Pro after Free or Starter actually ran out.

5. ReplyRush - $10 Lite, cheapest paid start

ReplyRush Free is 1,500 DMs/month. Lite is $10/month for 7,500 DMs. Boost is $25/month for 40,000 DMs. Max is $100/month for 400,000 DMs (ReplyRush pricing, October 2026). Comment auto-reply is not on the free plan.

If the ManyChat quote was the thing that stopped the owner, $10 Lite is the cheapest paid Instagram bucket on this list. 7,500 DMs is more than DM Automation Starter’s 2,000, at a lower sticker. Starter still wins if you want click tracking and email capture inside the DM on this site’s product.

Where it fits: one location, paid comment-to-DM, a menu PDF.

Where it does not: a five-location inbox. Boost is 3 accounts. Max is 5. Groups that already live in a desk should look at Respond.io, not Max.

6. Chatfuel - FAQ on parking and wait times, not the kitchen

Chatfuel Business is US$18/month billed yearly (US$216/year) with US$20 of AI credits per month. Agency S is US$90/month billed yearly for 3 companies (Chatfuel pricing, October 2026). Every plan starts with a free trial, no card.

Where it fits: parking, wait times, “do you take walk-ins,” “is the patio open,” repeated in the same words.

Where it does not: allergen questions. Do not let an AI co-pilot invent a safe plate. Hand those to a human. Chatfuel can still send the allergen PDF and say a manager will confirm.

Restaurants listed on Chatfuel’s public industries nav are a real use case. That does not make Chatfuel the default MENU tool. See Chatfuel alternatives for Instagram DMs if you already opened that canvas and only needed a URL.

7. Respond.io - Multi-location desk from $79

Respond.io Starter is $79/month ($948/year billed yearly). Growth is $159/month. Advanced is $279/month (Respond.io pricing, October 2026).

Where it fits: a group inbox that already covers WhatsApp, Instagram, and email across locations, with humans finishing reservation changes.

Where it does not: a single dining room sending a PDF. $79 Starter is the wrong first restaurant tool.

8. SetSmart - Private dining, not Saturday night

SetSmart Light is $25/month for 250 AI messages. Pro is $97/month for 1,000 AI messages (SetSmart pricing, October 2026).

Where it fits: a private-dining manager who wants an AI thread that collects date, headcount, and a form URL.

Where it does not: MENU on a taco Reel. You would be paying AI messages to send a PDF.

SetSmart stays on this site’s tracking list. It is not a POS and it is not ranked above ManyChat.

Restaurant keywords that should never share a flow

MENU vs TABLE. One is a file. One is a Saturday slot. Mixing them sends a 7pm reservation to someone who wanted calories.

HOURS vs TABLE. Closed Mondays should not receive a booking link that still shows Monday.

ALLERGY vs MENU. A menu PDF that is three months old is how you get a kitchen incident. Allergen questions go to a human or a dated PDF plus a “we will confirm” line.

DELIVERY vs TABLE. Uber Eats is not a two-top. Do not seat a delivery comment.

CATER vs TABLE. A 40-person lunch is not a Saturday two-top. Send the events form.

WAITLIST vs TABLE. When the book is full, swap the URL the same afternoon. A live calendar with zero slots trains people to ignore the next caption.

Write the public comment reply in the restaurant’s voice. “Menu’s in your DMs” is enough. Do not write a paragraph in the public comment. Templates for shorter lines live at Instagram DM templates.

What a food-Reel spike costs

A food Reel at 800 comments, one DM each:

  • DM Automation Starter: 2,000 DMs/month at $19. 800 fits. A second viral Reel the same month may not.
  • InstantDM Legend Pro: $9.99/month billed yearly, unlimited DMs. The spike does not change the bill.
  • InstantDM free: 500 DM automations/month. 800 does not fit. Upgrade before you post the noisy Reel.
  • LinkDM Pro: 25,000 DMs at $19/month. 800 fits. Free’s 1,000 fits the count but comment auto-reply is Pro.
  • ReplyRush Lite: 7,500 DMs at $10/month. 800 fits.
  • ManyChat Pro: 2,500 active contacts at $29/month billed yearly. 800 new commenters is a chunk of the bucket if they were not already contacts.
  • Chatfuel Business: US$18/month yearly plus credits if the flow used AI turns.
  • Respond.io Starter: $79/month. Wrong meter for one location.

Dentist Reels rarely hit 800 BOOK comments. Food Reels do. Size the plan for the noisy vertical, then keep HOURS on the same account with a quieter keyword. The mixed local page at Instagram DM automation for local businesses covers shops that are not dining rooms. This page stays on covers, menus, and the pass.

Floor rules the tool cannot save you from

The PDF is 18MB. Instagram DMs send a URL. If the tap opens a file that never loads on LTE outside the restaurant, you did not send a menu. Compress it.

Saturday is full and TABLE is still live. Swap to waitlist before service, not after the third angry reply.

The caption says “new autumn menu” and the PDF is July. Update the file the morning you post.

Allergen answers from a bot. No. Human, or a dated PDF plus confirm.

Two tools on the same keyword during a switch. Two DMs. One tool, then cutover.

Password apps that message people who liked the carbonara photo. Official API only. See the Instagram messaging docs. If a warning followed a password app, read “We suspect automated behavior.”

You bought a $79 shared inbox to send a PDF. Wrong meter.

You kept HOURS pointing at last winter’s patio season. Parking and patio notes go stale. Treat them like the menu.

Who is each tool for?

One location, Instagram only, testing. DM Automation free (100 DMs) or InstantDM free (500 automations).

One location, noisy Reels. InstantDM Legend Pro at $9.99/month billed yearly, or LinkDM Pro at $19/month, or DM Automation Starter at $19/month.

Regulars already on WhatsApp. ManyChat is number three.

Tiny paid budget. ReplyRush Lite $10/month for 7,500 DMs.

Parking and wait-time FAQ, not the kitchen. Chatfuel Business from US$18 yearly.

Group inbox. Respond.io Starter $79/month.

Private dining consults. SetSmart from $25 Light, usually Pro at $97.

How to choose in 10 minutes

  1. Start with DM Automation (own tool on this site). Free 100 DMs/month, Starter $19, Pro $49 for 3 accounts.
  2. If you want unlimited DMs on a flat $9.99 yearly-billed plan, InstantDM is number two.
  3. If regulars also need WhatsApp in the same builder, ManyChat is number three.
  4. Lowest paid Instagram comment-to-DM: ReplyRush Lite $10.
  5. Published cap on 3 accounts: LinkDM Pro $19.
  6. FAQ bot: Chatfuel Business from US$18 yearly.
  7. Multi-channel desk: Respond.io from $79 Starter.
  8. Private-dining AI thread: SetSmart from $25.

If two tools fit, pick the meter that matches last month’s noisest Reel. A Saturday special and a quiet lunch menu are not the same month.

Real estate listings are a different URL job: Instagram DM automation for real estate. Photographers are a different URL job: Instagram DM automation for photographers. Restaurants stay on MENU, TABLE, and HOURS.

FAQ

What is the best Instagram DM automation for restaurants in 2026?

DM Automation first (this site: free 100 DMs/month, Starter $19/month, Pro $49/month for 3 accounts), InstantDM second (Legend Pro $9.99/month billed yearly, free forever 500 DM automations/month), ManyChat third if regulars still need WhatsApp. Then LinkDM, ReplyRush, Chatfuel, Respond.io, and SetSmart. Ranked 23 October 2026.

Can I send a menu through Instagram DMs?

You send the PDF or page URL, not a 40-item paste inside Instagram. Update the file when the menu changes. The DM tool only sends the link.

Yes. That is comment-to-DM. Paste the OpenTable, Resy, Tock, or house URL. The reservation product still holds the table. Test from a second account.

Does InstantDM replace Toast or OpenTable?

No. InstantDM is Instagram DM automation at $9.99/month billed yearly for Legend Pro. It sends menu URLs, reservation URLs, and payment links. Toast still runs the ticket if that is your POS. OpenTable still holds the cover. Stripe or PayPal still process deposits.

How much is ManyChat Pro in 2026?

$29/month billed yearly, $39 billed monthly, 2,500 active contacts, on the 2 March 2026 plan set (Featurebase, quoting ManyChat’s public table). Free is 25 active contacts. See ManyChat pricing.

Should allergen questions use the same keyword as the menu?

No. MENU is a file. ALLERGY needs a human or a dated allergen PDF plus confirmation. Mixing them is how a bot invents a safe plate.

Can I automate DMs from a personal Instagram account?

No. Switch the restaurant to Business or Creator first.

Is it safe to auto-DM people who comment on food Reels?

On official API tools, you are messaging people who already commented or replied. That is the allowed pattern in Meta’s Instagram messaging docs. Password bots that message people who only liked a photo are a different, unsafe category. Free-plan limits: free Instagram automation tool 2026.

Do I need WhatsApp to take reservations?

Only if your regulars already talk there. Instagram-only comment-to-DM books tables without WhatsApp. ManyChat is third when WhatsApp is a real channel.

What if Saturday is already full?

Turn TABLE off or change the DM to a waitlist URL the same afternoon. A live calendar with zero slots trains people to ignore the next caption.

How is this different from the local business page?

That page mixes shops: menu, hours, quote, and appointment. This page is the dining room: MENU, TABLE, HOURS, ALLERGY, DELIVERY, CATERING. Same tools, restaurant URLs.

Next step

Pick a free plan, connect one Business or Creator account, and ship one comment-to-DM on one live food Reel. MENU or TABLE, not both on day one. Comment from a second account. Screenshot the DM. Then pay for a bigger bucket only after a real reservation or a real menu tap hits the thread.

Your next Reel can sell while you sleep

Connect the account, pick a keyword, write one message. That is the entire job, and the free plan covers it.
