The best Chatfuel alternatives for Instagram DMs in 2026 start with DM Automation, then InstantDM, then ManyChat if you still need WhatsApp in the same canvas. “Alternative” here means an official-API tool that sends a saved DM when someone already commented, replied to a story, or messaged you, without forcing an AI chatbot wallet as the default meter. DM Automation is the product on this site: free forever at 100 DMs/month, Starter $19/month. InstantDM is number two: Legend Pro $9.99/month billed yearly (InstantDM pricing, October 2026). ManyChat stays number three when Instagram is not your only channel. After that: LinkDM Pro $19/month, ReplyRush Lite $10/month, Chatfuel Business at US$18/month billed yearly, SendPulse, Respond.io Starter $79/month, SetSmart Light $25/month.
This page is the Chatfuel-alternative ranking for Instagram DMs. The ManyChat-alternative ranking lives at ManyChat alternatives for Instagram DMs. The suite ranking lives at 9 best Instagram DM automation tools in 2026. Same vendors, different job: here we score Instagram-first replacements for a Chatfuel bill, not a ManyChat contact bill and not the whole catalog.
Prices below come from each vendor’s public pricing page, checked 23 October 2026, except ManyChat’s public table which we quote from Featurebase’s write-up of ManyChat’s 2 March 2026 plans (Manychat Pricing 2026) and link to ManyChat pricing. manychat.com/pricing still returns 403 from this host.

What is a Chatfuel alternative for Instagram DMs?
A Chatfuel alternative for Instagram DMs is software that connects through Meta’s official API and sends a saved DM when someone already commented, replied to a story, or messaged you. People search “Chatfuel alternatives” for three reasons that are not the same.
- They wanted a URL, not an AI co-pilot. Chatfuel’s public page in October 2026 positions the product as an AI chatbot platform for WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. Business is US$18/month billed yearly (US$216/year) with US$20 of AI credits per month (Chatfuel pricing, October 2026). If the live job is LINK on a Reel, that wallet is extra machinery.
- The trial ran out. Every Chatfuel plan starts with a free trial, no card. There is no public free-forever DM bucket on that page. After the trial, you are on Business or Agency.
- WhatsApp fees sat next to the plan. Chatfuel is a WhatsApp Business Solution Provider. Meta’s WhatsApp fees are not included in the sticker. Chatfuel pays Meta for you and takes those fees from the same wallet as the plan’s credits. Instagram comment-to-DM does not need that stack.
Chatfuel is still a good product for FAQ bots, AI chat, and WhatsApp plus Instagram. It is not deleted from this list. An “alternative” page that pretends Chatfuel disappeared is a sales page. This list keeps ManyChat in slot three (WhatsApp suite with a contact meter) and places Chatfuel later as the AI chatbot you may still want. Instagram-first tools sit in front when the job is one keyword and one URL.
It is not a growth bot. Tools that ask for the Instagram password and then message strangers are a different category. Official API tools only talk to people who already contacted you. Meta’s rules live in the Instagram messaging docs.
A Business or Creator account is required. Personal accounts cannot connect.
Chatfuel’s own pricing FAQ says you can keep a customer base in the workspace, the team can use the inbox, you can cancel from billing settings, and most teams publish a first automation in minutes. That is true. The alternative search starts when those minutes produced a bot you did not need.
How we ranked Chatfuel alternatives
Five criteria, same weight for every product:
- Instagram comment-to-DM - Keyword on a post or Reel produces a DM in seconds. That is the job people leave a chatbot canvas for.
- Story replies - A Chatfuel page that lists Reels replies and story replies still often gets used as a feed trigger only. Story has to work.
- Official Instagram API - Instagram login, not a password form.
- Cost of a spike vs AI credits and contact billing - What 2,000 new people in a day costs. Flat DM buckets beat per-contact bills and beat credit wallets when you do not need WhatsApp or an AI agent.
- Time to first live automation - Minutes with a guided form vs an hour teaching a co-pilot what LINK means.
Last updated: 23 October 2026.
We sell DM Automation. Other tool prices are taken from those vendors’ public pages or a dated public quote of those pages. We do not pretend Chatfuel has no use. FAQ plus WhatsApp plus Instagram is still its lane.

ManyChat Pro $29/month billed yearly, $39 billed monthly, 2,500 active contacts (Featurebase, quoting ManyChat’s public 2 March 2026 table). Source: ManyChat pricing.
LinkDM Free includes Instagram DM automation and story auto-reply. Comment auto-reply is a Pro feature on LinkDM’s plan comparison (October 2026). ReplyRush Free is 1,500 DMs/month without comment auto-reply (ReplyRush pricing, October 2026).
1. DM Automation - Fastest Instagram-first Chatfuel alternative
DM Automation is the product on this site. Free forever: 1 Instagram account, 100 automated DMs a month, comment-to-DM, story replies, keyword triggers, welcome message, iOS and Android. Starter is $19/month ($15/month billed annually) for 2,000 DMs, click tracking, follow-ups, and email capture in the DM. Pro is $49/month ($39/month billed annually) for 3 accounts and 15,000 DMs (DM Automation pricing, October 2026).
The switch from Chatfuel is short if your live automation was one keyword and one URL. Connect a Business or Creator account through Instagram login. Pick the post. Set the keyword. Write the public comment reply and the private DM. Publish. Comment from a second account to test.
Where it fits: you used Chatfuel because a template said “Instagram comments,” you do not need WhatsApp, and you want a free plan that is not a trial clock.
Where it does not: 100 DMs/month on free will not cover a viral week. Upgrade, or pick a bigger published bucket (LinkDM Pro at 25,000 DMs), when volume shows up. If the automation has to diagnose a support ticket across WhatsApp and Instagram, stay on Chatfuel, ManyChat, or move to Respond.io.
The concession is honest. DM Automation is not an AI co-pilot. It does not do WhatsApp. It does not score leads inside a chat. That is why Chatfuel stays on the list and why ManyChat stays number three.
A Chatfuel trial that felt “set up in minutes” and then asked you to teach an agent is the usual path onto this page. Rebuild the one keyword. Turn the Chatfuel flow off after the new one replies. Do not run both on the same word.
2. InstantDM - $9.99 Legend Pro for unlimited DMs
InstantDM is number two on this site. Legend Pro is $9.99/month billed yearly with unlimited DMs (up to 800 an hour), Instagram plus Facebook, and story, Live, and next-post triggers. Trendsetter is $24.99/month billed yearly for the flow editor, Meta Ads, API, and webhooks. Trendsetter Pro is $49.99/month billed yearly. Free forever is 500 DM automations a month. Paid plans also offer a 7-day free trial, no card (instantdm.com/pricing, October 2026). Multi Starter is $160/year for 3 accounts.
People leave Chatfuel for InstantDM when the work is Instagram and the bill started to look like credits plus a plan. Unlimited DMs on a flat $9.99 yearly-billed plan means 2,000 comments in a day does not fill a monthly bucket and does not spend AI credits. You still respect Meta’s throughput. You do not pay per person forever and you do not feed a chatbot wallet for a URL paste.
It sends payment links in DMs. Stripe or PayPal still process the payment. InstantDM is not a checkout and not a WhatsApp suite.
Use InstantDM when you want unlimited DMs on a small flat bill. Use LinkDM when you prefer a published monthly DM cap. Use ManyChat when WhatsApp has to sit in the same canvas. Use Chatfuel when the thread has to answer five FAQ turns before the URL.
A second InstantDM mention belongs here because “unlimited DMs” is not “unlimited AI chat.” They are different meters. Pick the meter that matches the work.
3. ManyChat - Keep it if WhatsApp is the job
ManyChat is number three. It is not Chatfuel, and it still wins a lane this page has to name. Pro is $29/month billed yearly ($39 billed monthly) with 2,500 active contacts on the 2 March 2026 plan set (Featurebase, quoting ManyChat’s public table). Free is 25 active contacts per month. Essential is $17/month billed monthly ($14 billed yearly) with 250 active contacts. Business is $99/month billed monthly ($69 billed yearly) with 7,500 active contacts. Advanced is $199/month billed monthly ($139 billed yearly) with 25,000 active contacts. AI is included on Pro and above on the new model. Extra contacts are billed on top. Numbers are not tax-inclusive. See ManyChat pricing.
Keep ManyChat when Instagram is one channel among WhatsApp, Messenger, SMS, and email, and you already live in the canvas. Leave Chatfuel for ManyChat when you wanted a flowchart more than an AI agent. Leave both when you only needed comment-to-DM.
The cost trap on ManyChat is contacts, not DMs. If a Reel produces 2,000 new people, those people can stay on the contact meter. Featurebase’s worked example of a 10,000-contact ecommerce brand on Business plus overages plus WhatsApp delivery lands at $307.50/month in their October 2026 article. That is an example, not your quote. It is why Instagram-only accounts look at DM buckets instead.
Where it wins: WhatsApp plus Instagram, team routing, a flowchart you already built.
Where it loses: a single Instagram keyword and a single URL, billed as 2,000 new contacts.
ManyChat vs Chatfuel in one line: ManyChat meters people. Chatfuel meters a plan plus AI credits plus WhatsApp fees. Neither meters “DMs sent” the way DM Automation, LinkDM, and ReplyRush do.
4. LinkDM - $19 Pro if you want a published DM cap
LinkDM Free is 1,000 DMs/month on 1 account. Pro is $19/month for 25,000 DMs on 3 accounts. Platinum+ is $99/month for 300,000 DMs on 10 accounts (LinkDM pricing, October 2026). Yearly Pro is $182 (20% off). Yearly Platinum+ is $832 (30% off).
Chatfuel alternatives that still scare people are the ones with “AI” and no number on the invoice. LinkDM prints the cap. 1,000 DMs is a test. 25,000 DMs is a real week. 300,000 DMs is Platinum+ and you should not buy it until Pro has actually run out.
Free includes Instagram DM automation, Facebook DM automations, story automations, next post, next story, and inbox starters. Comment auto-reply, lead gen, universal triggers, and branding removal sit on Pro.
Where it fits: you left Chatfuel because you wanted DMs, and you want the new invoice to say DMs.
Where it does not: WhatsApp, a shared support desk, or an AI consult.
If comment auto-reply is the public half of the job, do not stay on LinkDM Free. Use Pro, or use DM Automation / InstantDM / ReplyRush Lite, which publish comment-to-DM on paid (and, for DM Automation and InstantDM, on free).
5. ReplyRush - $10 Lite, cheapest paid start
ReplyRush Free is 1,500 DMs/month. Lite is $10/month for 7,500 DMs. Boost is $25/month for 40,000 DMs. Max is $100/month for 400,000 DMs (ReplyRush pricing, October 2026). Comment auto-reply is not on the free plan.
If the Chatfuel quote was the thing that stopped you, $10 Lite is the cheapest paid Instagram bucket on this list. 7,500 DMs is more than DM Automation Starter’s 2,000, at a lower sticker. Starter still wins if you want click tracking and email capture inside the DM on this site’s product.
Lite includes comment auto-reply, follow-gated DM, post/Reels/story automation, and email collector on 1 Instagram account. Boost is 3 accounts. Max is 5.
Where it fits: you wanted Chatfuel’s comment reply without Chatfuel’s AI wallet.
Where it does not: WhatsApp broadcasts, a CRM desk, or an agency dashboard for three companies.
6. Chatfuel - Keep it if the bot was the point
Chatfuel is the product this page is an alternative to, and it still wins a lane. Business is US$18/month billed yearly (US$216/year) or about US$20 billed monthly, with US$20 of AI credits per month. Agency S is US$90/month billed yearly (US$1,080/year) with US$100 of AI credits per month, 3 companies, an agency dashboard, and a dedicated account manager. Every plan starts with a free trial, no credit card (Chatfuel pricing, October 2026). Usage limits apply; Chatfuel tells you to contact them if you outgrow the plan.
Keep Chatfuel when the thread has to qualify, score, book, or answer FAQ turns, and when WhatsApp is a real channel next to Instagram. Leave Chatfuel when the live automation is one keyword and one URL.
Chatfuel lists Instagram comments, Reels replies, story replies, keyword triggers, live chat, inbox and CRM, payment links, and Meta Conversions API on the public product nav. That is a lot of surface. The alternative search is usually “I only needed three of those.”
Where it wins: FAQ, AI sales manager, appointment booking inside chat, WhatsApp templates, agency seats for several client businesses.
Where it loses: Instagram-only comment-to-DM billed as a chatbot platform.
Meta’s WhatsApp fees are separate. Chatfuel pays Meta and pulls the fees from the same wallet as credits. Instagram DMs on the official API are not WhatsApp conversations. Do not copy a WhatsApp quote onto an Instagram-only account.
7. SendPulse - Email plus Instagram in one login
SendPulse is a suite. Email plans on the public pricing page start around $9.60/month billed annually for 500 subscribers on Standard, with Pro and other versions above that (SendPulse pricing, October 2026). Chatbots sit inside the suite, not as a DM-meter product.
Where it fits: you already pay SendPulse for email and you want Instagram in the same login.
Where it does not: you came from Chatfuel for Instagram comments and you do not run email in that product. Do not add a suite to replace a chatbot you already found heavy.
8. Respond.io - Team inbox from $79 Starter
Respond.io Starter is $79/month ($1,188/year, or $948/year billed yearly). Growth is $159/month. Advanced is $279/month (Respond.io pricing, October 2026). Additional users have published seat add-ons. Growth and Advanced bill extra monthly active contacts.
Where it fits: a shared support desk that already lives on WhatsApp, email, and Instagram, with humans in the thread.
Where it does not: a creator sending one URL. $79 Starter is the wrong Chatfuel alternative if the pain was “the bot was too much.” You would be buying more desk, not less.
9. SetSmart - AI setter from $25 Light
SetSmart Light is $25/month for 250 AI messages, billed today, no free trial. Pro is $97/month for 1,000 AI messages with a 7-day trial, then monthly. Scale is $297/month for 4,000 AI messages. Enterprise is $797/month (SetSmart pricing, October 2026). Extra messages top up ($100 per 1,000 on Light, $70 on Pro, $40 on Scale).
Where it fits: coaches who want an AI conversation that books a consult, which is closer to Chatfuel’s AI lane than to a URL paste.
Where it does not: LINK on a product Reel. You would be paying AI messages to do a job a keyword already does.
If you left Chatfuel because the AI felt like the product, do not replace it with SetSmart unless the consult is the product. If you left Chatfuel because you never wanted AI, skip this row.
Why people leave Chatfuel for Instagram-only work
The public Chatfuel page is honest about what it is. AI chatbot. WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook. Credits. Trial. Agency tier. That is a platform. Instagram comment-to-DM is a trigger.
Four leave reasons we keep seeing, none of which mean Chatfuel is a bad tool.
- The first win was a URL. Someone commented LINK. The DM should have been the product page. The builder wanted a bot personality.
- Credits showed up next to the plan. Business includes US$20 of AI credits per month. WhatsApp fees come from the same wallet. A quiet Instagram month still has a chatbot invoice.
- The trial ended. There is no 100-DM or 500-automation free forever on Chatfuel’s pricing page. DM Automation, InstantDM, LinkDM, and ReplyRush publish those.
- WhatsApp was in the demo and not in the business. Chatfuel is strong there. Instagram-only shops do not need a BSP to send a menu URL.
If none of those are true, stay. This page is not a migration sermon. It is a ranking for people who already decided the bot was the wrong shape.
Chatfuel vs ManyChat vs a flat DM bucket
Three meters. Do not mix them in a spreadsheet as if they were the same unit.
Chatfuel bills a plan (US$18/month yearly on Business) plus AI credits plus, if you use WhatsApp, Meta’s WhatsApp fees from the same wallet.
ManyChat bills active contacts. Pro is $29/month billed yearly for 2,500. A viral Reel is a contact event.
Flat DM tools bill messages or a flat unlimited. DM Automation Starter is 2,000 DMs at $19/month. InstantDM Legend Pro is unlimited DMs at $9.99/month billed yearly. LinkDM Pro is 25,000 DMs at $19/month. ReplyRush Lite is 7,500 DMs at $10/month.
Pick the meter that matches last month’s noisest Reel. If the Reel produced FAQ threads, Chatfuel or ManyChat. If it produced LINK comments, a DM bucket.
The ManyChat pricing 2026 page is the contact-math version of this argument. The InstantDM vs ManyChat page is the two-product version. This page is the Chatfuel-shaped version.
How to switch off Chatfuel without two DMs
- Connect the new tool with Instagram login. Business or Creator only.
- Rebuild one keyword. Same word, same URL, same public comment line.
- Comment from a second account. Screenshot the DM.
- Turn the Chatfuel flow off. Not pause-and-hope. Off.
- Watch the next 20 comments. If two DMs arrive, something is still live.
- Only then rebuild story replies.
Do not run Chatfuel and a new tool on the same keyword during a “just in case” week. People get two private messages and think the account is broken.
Cold outreach is still banned on the way out. No official API tool on this list should message people who never contacted you. That is how you get We suspect automated behavior.
What a spike costs on each meter
A Reel at 2,000 LINK comments, one DM each:
- DM Automation Starter: 2,000 DMs/month at $19. It fits if the month was quiet before the Reel. A second spike the same month does not.
- InstantDM Legend Pro: $9.99/month billed yearly, unlimited DMs. The spike does not change the bill. Throughput still caps around 800/hour on that plan’s public copy.
- InstantDM free: 500 DM automations/month. 2,000 does not fit. Upgrade before you post the noisy Reel.
- LinkDM Pro: 25,000 DMs at $19/month. 2,000 fits. Free’s 1,000 does not.
- ReplyRush Lite: 7,500 DMs at $10/month. 2,000 fits. Free’s 1,500 does not, and free has no comment auto-reply.
- ManyChat Pro: 2,500 active contacts at $29/month billed yearly. 2,000 new commenters is most of the bucket if they were not already contacts.
- Chatfuel Business: the plan is US$18/month yearly. Credits and usage limits sit on top. 2,000 comment replies is a usage event, not a DM-bucket event. If the flow used AI turns, credits move.
Size the plan for the noisy week, then keep the quiet keyword on the same account.
Common mistakes when replacing Chatfuel
You replace a FAQ bot with a URL tool and leave the FAQ unanswered. If people asked “is this waterproof” in the thread, paste a page that answers it. Do not send checkout and hope.
You keep Chatfuel live “as backup.” Two DMs. Cutover is a switch, not a stack.
You buy Respond.io because Chatfuel had an inbox. $79 Starter is a desk. Creators sending one URL should not start there.
You buy SetSmart because Chatfuel said AI. Light is $25/month for 250 AI messages. That is a consult setter. It is not a LINK keyword.
You paste the Instagram password into a cheaper “Chatfuel alternative” from an ad. Official API only. See the Instagram messaging docs. If a warning followed a password app, read “We suspect automated behavior.”
You treat Agency S as the default. Agency S is US$90/month yearly for several client businesses. One creator account does not need three companies and a dedicated manager.
You copy WhatsApp fees onto Instagram. Meta charges WhatsApp separately. Instagram comment-to-DM on the official API is a different channel.
Who is each tool for?
Leaving Chatfuel, Instagram only, testing. DM Automation free (100 DMs) or InstantDM free (500 automations) or LinkDM free (1,000 DMs, no comment auto-reply).
Leaving Chatfuel because the bot was extra. InstantDM Legend Pro at $9.99/month billed yearly, or LinkDM Pro at $19/month, or DM Automation Starter at $19/month.
Not leaving Chatfuel, because FAQ and WhatsApp are real. Stay. Rebuild nothing.
Tiny paid budget. ReplyRush Lite $10/month for 7,500 DMs.
WhatsApp plus Instagram, flowchart not agent. ManyChat is number three.
Still need a bot, not just a URL. Chatfuel Business from US$18/month billed yearly.
Team inbox. Respond.io Starter $79/month.
AI setter. SetSmart from $25 Light, usually Pro at $97.
Email plus Instagram in one login. SendPulse, if you already pay for email.
How to choose in 10 minutes
- Start with DM Automation (own tool on this site). Free 100 DMs/month, Starter $19.
- If you want unlimited DMs on a flat $9.99 yearly-billed plan, InstantDM is number two.
- If you need WhatsApp in the same builder, ManyChat is number three. That is not a failed alternative search. That is the right product for that job.
- Lowest paid Instagram bucket: ReplyRush Lite $10.
- Published cap: LinkDM Pro $19.
- FAQ bot you already like: stay on Chatfuel Business from US$18 yearly.
- Team inbox: Respond.io $79.
- AI setter: SetSmart from $25.
If two tools fit, pick the meter that matches last month. Credits, contacts, and DMs are not interchangeable.
Verticals that use the same Instagram-first job with different URLs: ecommerce, beauty, coaches, auto reply tools.
FAQ
What is the best Chatfuel alternative for Instagram DMs in 2026?
DM Automation first (this site: free 100 DMs/month, Starter $19/month), InstantDM second (Legend Pro $9.99/month billed yearly), ManyChat third if you still need WhatsApp. Then LinkDM, ReplyRush, Chatfuel itself if the bot was the point, SendPulse, Respond.io, and SetSmart. Ranked 23 October 2026.
Why look for Chatfuel alternatives if Chatfuel is still on the list?
Because the search is “I do not want an AI chatbot wallet for Instagram-only comment-to-DM.” Chatfuel still wins FAQ plus WhatsApp plus Instagram. Instagram-first tools win the other lane.
How much is Chatfuel in 2026?
Business is US$18/month billed yearly (US$216/year) with US$20 of AI credits per month. Agency S is US$90/month billed yearly (US$1,080/year) with US$100 of AI credits per month and 3 companies. Every plan starts with a free trial, no card (Chatfuel pricing, October 2026). WhatsApp fees are extra and come from the same wallet as credits.
Does InstantDM replace Chatfuel?
For Instagram comment-to-DM and story replies, it can. For an AI FAQ bot and WhatsApp templates, no. Legend Pro is $9.99/month billed yearly with unlimited DMs. Free forever is 500 DM automations a month (InstantDM pricing, October 2026). Stripe or PayPal still process payment links.
How much is ManyChat Pro in 2026?
$29/month billed yearly, $39 billed monthly, 2,500 active contacts, on the 2 March 2026 plan set (Featurebase, quoting ManyChat’s public table). Free is 25 active contacts. See ManyChat pricing.
Does Chatfuel have a free forever plan?
Not on the public pricing page we checked 23 October 2026. It has a free trial, no card. Free-forever DM buckets live on DM Automation (100 DMs), InstantDM (500 automations), LinkDM (1,000 DMs), and ReplyRush (1,500 DMs). Details: free Instagram automation tool 2026.
Will a viral Reel blow up a Chatfuel bill?
It can move usage and credits. It does not work like ManyChat’s contact meter and it does not work like a published DM cap. If the flow used AI turns, credits move. If you only needed a saved DM, a DM bucket is easier to predict.
Is it safe to switch tools on a live keyword?
Yes, if both tools use the official API and you turn the old flow off after the new one replies. Do not run two tools on the same keyword. See Meta’s Instagram messaging docs.
Can I automate Instagram DMs from a personal account?
No. Switch to Business or Creator first. API tools cannot connect to a personal account.
Do I need Chatfuel if I only send a URL?
No. Chatfuel is for FAQ and AI chat. URL paste is DM Automation, InstantDM, LinkDM, or ReplyRush.
Is Respond.io a Chatfuel alternative for creators?
Not a good one. Starter is $79/month for a team inbox. Creators sending one URL should not start there.
Is this the same as the ManyChat alternatives page?
No. That page ranks Instagram-first replacements for a ManyChat contact bill. This page ranks Instagram-first replacements for a Chatfuel chatbot bill. ManyChat is still number three on both.

Next step
Pick a free plan, connect one Business or Creator account, and rebuild one Chatfuel keyword as a single comment-to-DM. Turn the old flow off after the new one replies. Then pay for a bigger bucket only after the switch actually converts.
