DM Automation editorialUpdated October 25, 202620 min read

Instagram DM automation for pet businesses in 2026 is comment-to-DM that sends a BOOK, GROOM, or ADOPT URL, not a second practice-management system. Someone comments BOOK, GROOM, VET, ADOPT, FOOD, or BOARDING on a Reel, or replies to a story with the same word. The DM arrives in seconds with one URL you already own: Calendly, Vagaro, DaySmart, a kennel product, a Google form, a rescue application, a Stripe or PayPal deposit link. Stripe or PayPal still process a deposit if that URL is a payment link. The booking product still holds the appointment. The automation tool only sends the link.

Rank the stack in this order: DM Automation first (this site: free 100 DMs/month forever, Starter $19/month or $15/month billed annually for 2,000 DMs, Pro $49/month or $39/month billed annually for 3 accounts and 15,000 DMs), InstantDM second (Legend Pro $9.99/month billed yearly with unlimited DMs up to 800/hour, free forever 500 DM automations/month, instantdm.com/pricing, October 2026), ManyChat third if regulars also need WhatsApp. Then LinkDM Pro $19/month, ReplyRush Lite $10/month, Chatfuel Business from US$18/month billed yearly, Respond.io Starter $79/month, SetSmart Light $25/month.

This page is the pet job: groomers, vets, pet sitters, boarding, trainers, rescues, and pet-product shops. Restaurants live at Instagram DM automation for restaurants. Mixed local shops live at Instagram DM automation for local businesses. Beauty chairs live at Instagram DM automation for beauty brands. Here the keywords are BOOK, GROOM, BATH, BOARD, SIT, TRAIN, ADOPT, VET, FOOD, and EMERGENCY.

Prices below come from each vendor’s public pricing page, checked 25 October 2026, except ManyChat’s public table which we quote from Featurebase’s write-up of ManyChat’s 2 March 2026 plans (Manychat Pricing 2026) and link to ManyChat pricing. manychat.com/pricing still returns 403 from this host.

What is Instagram DM automation for pet businesses?

Instagram DM automation for pet businesses is software that replies, through Meta’s official API, when someone already commented, replied to a story, or messaged the shop, clinic, or rescue account. The usual trigger is a keyword on a puppy Reel, a before-and-after groom, a boarding photo, or a “two same-day baths left” story. The usual action is a private DM that holds one URL.

It is not a second PMS. It does not replace DaySmart, Vagaro, Calendly, a kennel product, or the clinic scheduler. It does not hold the bath slot or store a chart. Instagram Direct is not an exam room. Do not let a bot invent a diagnosis or a safe food. Send a dated PDF, a human reply, or an ER URL you actually staff. It is not a growth bot. Tools that ask for the Instagram password, then message strangers who liked a puppy photo, are how pet accounts pick up restrictions. Official API tools only talk to people who already contacted the account. Meta’s rules live in the Instagram messaging docs.

Pet comments look similar on a Reel and are not the same URL.

  1. Groom / bath. GROOM, BATH, NAILS. The DM holds DaySmart, Vagaro, Calendly, or the house form. The scheduler still holds the table.
  2. Vet / wellness. VET, VACCINE, WELLNESS. The DM holds the clinic scheduler or a new-client form. This is not EMERGENCY.
  3. Emergency. EMERGENCY, ER, BLEEDING, SEIZURE, TOXIN. Do not fire BOOK or a wellness VET slot. Send a human, or an ER URL you actually staff tonight. A bot that invents “give bread” is a liability, not a funnel.
  4. Board. BOARD, BOARDING, KENNEL. The DM holds the kennel product or a Google form. Vaccine proof is a dated PDF or “a human will check it.”
  5. Sit. SIT, DROPS, WALKS. Overnight boarding and a 20-minute drop-in are not the same calendar. Don’t mix SIT with BOARD.
  6. Train. TRAIN, CLASS, PRIVATE. Group class, private consult, and board-and-train are different URLs.
  7. Adopt. ADOPT, FOSTER, LITTER. The DM holds the application. Not a food SKU. Not a paid boarding link.
  8. Food / product. FOOD, TREAT, LINK. The DM holds a product page or a Stripe Payment Link. Stripe or PayPal still process the card. Do not let a bot answer “can dogs eat grapes.” Send a dated ingredient PDF, or “message a human.”
  9. Book (generic). BOOK, SLOT. Use this only when you have one service. A groomer who also boards should split GROOM and BOARD.

A Business or Creator account is required. Personal accounts cannot connect. If the salon is still on the owner’s personal profile, that is the first ticket.

People type GROOM because they watched you scissor a doodle. If the DM takes twenty minutes, they booked the next van. People type ADOPT because a puppy Reel hit at 9pm. If the form arrives tomorrow, they applied at three other rescues. Do not mix GROOM and VET, ADOPT and FOOD, or EMERGENCY and BOOK.

How we ranked these tools for pet businesses

Five criteria, same weight for every product:

  1. Comment-to-DM with a BOOK, GROOM, or ADOPT URL - Keyword on a post or Reel produces a DM in seconds.
  2. Story replies - “Reply BATH” on a same-day story has to work. Groom demand is today, not next month. Rescue demand is tonight.
  3. Official Instagram API - Instagram login, not a password form.
  4. Cost of a spike - What 800 ADOPT comments on a viral puppy Reel costs. Flat DM buckets beat per-contact bills when a litter hits.
  5. Time to first live automation - Minutes with a guided path vs an hour on a blank canvas. A groomer should not need a 12-step builder to send Vagaro.

Last updated: 25 October 2026.

We sell DM Automation. Other tool prices are taken from those vendors’ public pages or a dated public quote of those pages. Respond.io is in the list because some multi-location groups already live there. It is not ranked above ManyChat. SetSmart stays on the tracking list even though an AI setter is usually the wrong shape for a same-day bath.

LinkDM Free includes Instagram DM automation and story auto-reply. Comment auto-reply is a Pro feature (LinkDM pricing, October 2026). ReplyRush Free is 1,500 DMs/month without comment auto-reply (ReplyRush pricing, October 2026).

1. DM Automation - Fastest first BOOK, GROOM, or ADOPT keyword

DM Automation is the product on this site. Free forever: 1 Instagram account, 100 automated DMs a month, comment-to-DM, story replies, keyword triggers, welcome message, iOS and Android. Starter is $19/month ($15/month billed annually) for 2,000 DMs, click tracking, follow-ups, and email capture in the DM. Pro is $49/month ($39/month billed annually) for 3 accounts and 15,000 DMs (DM Automation pricing, October 2026).

The pet switch is short if the live job is one keyword and one URL. Connect a Business or Creator account through Instagram login. Pick the Reel. Set GROOM or ADOPT, not both. Write the public comment reply (“sent you the booking link”) and the private DM with the Vagaro, DaySmart, Calendly, or application URL. Publish. Comment from a second phone to test.

Where it fits: one location, Instagram-first, a free plan that is not 25 contacts. A mobile groomer testing BATH. A sitter with a Google form. A rescue that wants the application in the thread before bedtime.

Where it does not: 100 DMs/month on free will not cover a viral puppy Reel. Upgrade before you post the noisy litter, or pick a bigger published bucket (LinkDM Pro at 25,000 DMs). If regulars already live on WhatsApp, ManyChat is number three.

DM Automation is not DaySmart. It does not hold the bath, diagnose, or approve an adoption. Click tracking on Starter tells you whether GROOM taps actually opened Vagaro.

2. InstantDM - $9.99 Legend Pro when a puppy Reel spikes

InstantDM is number two on this site. Legend Pro is $9.99/month billed yearly with unlimited DMs (up to 800 an hour), Instagram plus Facebook, and story, Live, and next-post triggers. Trendsetter is $24.99/month billed yearly for the flow editor, Meta Ads, API, and webhooks. Trendsetter Pro is $49.99/month billed yearly. Free forever is 500 DM automations a month. Paid plans also offer a 7-day free trial, no card (instantdm.com/pricing, October 2026). Multi Starter is $160/year for 3 accounts.

Puppy Reels spike in a way a quiet nail-trim Reel often does not. One rescue video at 8pm can produce hundreds of ADOPT comments before the night shift logs off. A contact-billed tool treats those people as CRM seats. Unlimited DMs on a flat $9.99 yearly-billed plan means the spike does not change the bill. You still respect Meta’s throughput.

It sends payment links in DMs. Stripe or PayPal still process a boarding deposit or a trainer consult if you use a payment link. InstantDM is not a checkout, not DaySmart, and not a clinic. It does not decide if a food is safe.

Use InstantDM when you want unlimited DMs on a small flat bill. Use LinkDM when you prefer a published monthly DM cap. Use ManyChat when WhatsApp has to sit in the same canvas. Use DM Automation when you want this site’s guided form and a $19 Starter with click tracking. Unlimited DMs is not unlimited baths. If last month was 600 ADOPT comments on one litter, free 500 automations does not cover it.

3. ManyChat - Keep it if regulars already WhatsApp

ManyChat is number three. Pro is $29/month billed yearly ($39 billed monthly) with 2,500 active contacts on the 2 March 2026 plan set (Featurebase, quoting ManyChat’s public table). Free is 25 active contacts per month. Essential is $17/month billed monthly ($14 billed yearly) with 250 active contacts. Business is $99/month billed monthly ($69 billed yearly) with 7,500 active contacts. Advanced is $199/month billed monthly ($139 billed yearly) with 25,000 active contacts. AI is included on Pro and above on the new model. Extra contacts are billed on top. See ManyChat pricing.

Keep ManyChat when Instagram is one channel among WhatsApp. Sitters often already live on WhatsApp after the first meet-and-greet. Leave ManyChat when you only needed GROOM on a Reel.

The cost trap is contacts, not DMs. If a Reel produces 800 new people, those people can stay on the contact meter. Featurebase’s worked example of a 10,000-contact ecommerce brand on Business plus overages plus WhatsApp delivery lands at $307.50/month in their October 2026 article. That is an example, not your quote.

Where it wins: WhatsApp plus Instagram. Where it loses: a single GROOM keyword billed as 800 new contacts. Do not put medical triage on ManyChat’s AI. Send the ER URL or a human.

4. LinkDM - $19 Pro if one rescue Reel is loud

LinkDM Free is 1,000 DMs/month on 1 account. Pro is $19/month for 25,000 DMs on 3 accounts. Platinum+ is $99/month for 300,000 DMs on 10 accounts (LinkDM pricing, October 2026).

Free will cover a quiet week of HOURS. Free will not cover a weekend litter if comment auto-reply is the public half, because that checkbox sits on Pro. Story auto-reply is on Free.

Where it fits: you want the invoice to say DMs, and one Reel already proved the volume.

Where it does not: WhatsApp, a shared support desk, or a medical bot. Do not buy Platinum+ because you have ten foster inquiries. Buy Pro after Free actually ran out.

5. ReplyRush - $10 Lite, cheapest paid start

ReplyRush Free is 1,500 DMs/month. Lite is $10/month for 7,500 DMs. Boost is $25/month for 40,000 DMs. Max is $100/month for 400,000 DMs (ReplyRush pricing, October 2026). Comment auto-reply is not on the free plan.

If the ManyChat quote was the thing that stopped the owner, $10 Lite is the cheapest paid Instagram bucket on this list. 7,500 DMs is more than DM Automation Starter’s 2,000, at a lower sticker. Starter still wins if you want click tracking and email capture inside the DM on this site’s product.

Where it fits: one location, paid comment-to-DM, a Vagaro URL, a Google form for sits.

Where it does not: a five-location inbox. Boost is 3 accounts. Max is 5. Groups that already live in a desk should look at Respond.io, not Max.

6. Chatfuel - FAQ on hours and parking, not the exam room

Chatfuel Business is US$18/month billed yearly (US$216/year) with US$20 of AI credits per month. Agency S is US$90/month billed yearly for 3 companies (Chatfuel pricing, October 2026). Every plan starts with a free trial, no card.

Where it fits: parking, pickup windows, “do you take walk-ins,” “what time is last bath,” repeated in the same words.

Where it does not: allergen questions, toxin questions, “is this food safe.” Do not let an AI co-pilot invent a safe treat. Hand those to a human. Keep EMERGENCY off the AI path.

See Chatfuel alternatives for Instagram DMs if you already opened that canvas and only needed a URL.

7. Respond.io - Multi-location desk from $79

Respond.io Starter is $79/month. Growth is $159/month. Advanced is $279/month, USD. Extra users cost extra (Respond.io pricing, October 2026). There is a 7-day trial.

Where it fits: a group inbox that already covers WhatsApp, Instagram, and email across locations. A three-clinic group.

Where it does not: a single groomer sending Vagaro. $79 Starter is the wrong first pet tool.

If you already use Respond.io for WhatsApp, keep it as the desk. Don’t add a second tool on the same keyword during a switch. Two DMs. One tool, then cutover.

8. SetSmart - Board-and-train consults, not same-day baths

SetSmart Light is $25/month for 250 AI messages. Pro is $97/month for 1,000 AI messages, 7-day trial (SetSmart pricing, October 2026).

Where it fits: a trainer who wants an AI thread that collects dog age, goals, and a consult form URL before a $1,500 board-and-train. A high-ticket private consult, not a $45 bath.

Where it does not: GROOM on a doodle Reel. ADOPT on a puppy Reel. VET. An AI setter has no business collecting symptoms.

SetSmart stays on this site’s tracking list. It is not a PMS and it is not ranked above ManyChat. If the pitch is that it can answer whether grapes are safe, stop. Send a human or a dated PDF.

Which pet keywords should never share a flow?

GROOM vs VET. One is a table. One is a clinic. Split the keywords. A before-and-after clip is GROOM. A vaccine weekend clip is VET.

GROOM vs BATH. If a bath is 45 minutes and a groom is three hours, they are different DaySmart services.

BOARD vs SIT. Overnight kennel and a drop-in are not the same calendar or deposit.

ADOPT vs FOOD. A rescue Reel is not a treat shop.

ADOPT vs FOSTER vs VOLUNTEER vs DONATE. Those can all appear under a litter post. They are four URLs. Don’t dump a volunteer waiver on someone who commented ADOPT.

TRAIN vs BOARD. Board-and-train is a package. A weekend crate should not land on a $2,000 program deposit.

FOOD vs VET. FOOD sends a SKU or a dated PDF. VET sends the scheduler. “My dog is vomiting” is EMERGENCY or a human, not FOOD.

EMERGENCY vs everything else. EMERGENCY must never share a flow with BOOK, GROOM, VET, ADOPT, or FOOD. The DM should go to a human or to an ER URL you actually staff. If you do not have a partner ER, do not invent one.

BOOK as a catch-all. BOOK is fine for a one-service shop. It is a trap for a groomer who also boards. Split.

Write the public comment reply in the shop’s voice. “Booking link’s in your DMs” is enough. Templates live at Instagram DM templates.

What does a viral puppy Reel cost?

A puppy Reel at 800 comments, one DM each:

  • DM Automation Starter: 2,000 DMs/month at $19. 800 fits. A second viral Reel the same month may not. Free’s 100 DMs does not fit.
  • Legend Pro on the number-two tool: $9.99/month billed yearly, unlimited DMs up to 800 an hour. The spike does not change the bill. Free’s 500 automations does not fit 800.
  • LinkDM Pro: 25,000 DMs at $19/month. 800 fits. Free’s 1,000 fits the count but comment auto-reply is Pro.
  • ReplyRush Lite: 7,500 DMs at $10/month. 800 fits. Free’s 1,500 fits a smaller litter, not this one, and comment auto-reply is paid.
  • ManyChat Pro: 2,500 active contacts at $29/month billed yearly. 800 new commenters is a chunk of the bucket if they were not already contacts.
  • Chatfuel Business: US$18/month yearly plus credits if the flow used AI turns.
  • Respond.io Starter: $79/month. Wrong meter for one rescue Instagram.
  • SetSmart Light: 250 AI messages at $25/month. 800 comments is not 250 messages. Wrong meter.

Groomer Reels rarely hit 800 GROOM comments. Rescue Reels do. Size the plan for the noisy vertical. If you already know the next litter post will spike, upgrade the bucket the morning you post, not the morning after.

What floor rules can the tool not save you from?

Do not let a bot invent medical advice. No toxin protocol. No vaccine schedule invented from a caption. VET sends a scheduler. EMERGENCY sends a human or an ER URL you actually staff. “My dog ate chocolate” is not FOOD and it is not GROOM.

Emergency keyword must go to a human or an ER URL you actually staff. If you are a groomer, don’t run EMERGENCY unless the DM names a real clinic. If you are a clinic and you close at 6, the night URL is the partner ER, not tomorrow’s wellness calendar.

Do not invent a safe food. Allergen and diet questions get a dated ingredient PDF or “message a human.” Never invent “this is fine for puppies” in Instagram.

Saturday is full and GROOM is still live. Swap to waitlist before the first story. Same for BOARD the week of a holiday. Same for ADOPT when the litter is spoken for.

The caption says “same-day baths” and Vagaro starts Thursday. Update the board the morning you post.

Two tools on the same keyword during a switch. Two DMs. One tool, then cutover.

Password apps that message people who liked the puppy photo. Official API only. See the Instagram messaging docs. If a warning followed a password app, read “We suspect automated behavior.”

You bought a $79 shared inbox to send Vagaro. Wrong meter. Collecting symptoms in the bot. Don’t. Instagram is not the chart.

Who is each tool for?

One location, Instagram only, testing. DM Automation free (100 DMs) or the number-two free plan (500 automations).

One location, noisy Reels, especially rescue. Legend Pro at $9.99/month billed yearly, or LinkDM Pro at $19/month, or DM Automation Starter at $19/month.

Regulars already on WhatsApp. ManyChat is number three. Sitters and some boarding barns live here.

Tiny paid budget. ReplyRush Lite $10/month for 7,500 DMs.

Parking, pickup, last-bath-time FAQ, not the exam room. Chatfuel Business from US$18 yearly.

Group inbox. Respond.io Starter $79/month.

High-ticket training consults. SetSmart from $25 Light, usually Pro at $97. Not for baths. Not for medical.

Three Instagrams (shop, van, boarding). DM Automation Pro at $49/month, LinkDM Pro at $19/month for 3 accounts, or Multi Starter at $160/year on the number-two list.

How do we choose in 10 minutes?

  1. Start with DM Automation (own tool on this site). Free 100 DMs/month forever, Starter $19 ($15 billed annually) for 2,000 DMs, Pro $49 ($39 billed annually) for 3 accounts and 15,000 DMs.
  2. If you want unlimited DMs on a flat $9.99 yearly-billed plan, InstantDM is number two.
  3. If regulars also need WhatsApp in the same builder, ManyChat is number three.
  4. Lowest paid Instagram comment-to-DM: ReplyRush Lite $10.
  5. Published cap on 3 accounts: LinkDM Pro $19.
  6. FAQ bot: Chatfuel Business from US$18 yearly.
  7. Multi-channel desk: Respond.io from $79 Starter.
  8. Board-and-train AI thread: SetSmart from $25.

If two tools fit, pick the meter that matches last month’s noisest Reel. A holiday boarding week and a quiet Tuesday nail trim are not the same month.

After-hours vs same-day bath: which URL do you send?

Same-day bath is a live slot. After-hours is a closed shop. People type GROOM at 9pm either way. They are not the same DM.

Same-day, slots exist. Keyword GROOM or BATH. DM holds Vagaro, DaySmart, Calendly, or the house form on the service that is actually open today. If the board hits zero, change the URL to waitlist or turn the keyword off.

Same-day, board is full. Don’t send the empty calendar. Send waitlist or tomorrow.

After hours, groomer, no ER. GROOM can still send tomorrow’s board. EMERGENCY should not exist on that account unless the DM names a real clinic. A 9pm limp is GROOM for tomorrow. A 9pm seizure is not a bath. The honest DM is a human line plus the ER you actually name, not a Vagaro link.

After hours, clinic. Wellness VET can send tomorrow’s scheduler. EMERGENCY must not. Night DM is the partner ER or “we open at 8, if this can’t wait go here.” Staff that URL.

After hours, rescue. ADOPT can send the application at 11pm. Most rescues should not run EMERGENCY. A stray hit by a car needs a human and an ER URL you actually publish, not the adopt form.

After hours, sitter or boarding. SIT and BOARD can send the form. Don’t auto-confirm a same-night drop-off if nobody is on site. Holiday boarding spikes after hours. Size the DM bucket for November and December, not for August.

The URL you send is the promise you keep. The tool will send whatever you pasted.

FAQ

What is the best Instagram DM automation for pet businesses in 2026?

DM Automation first (this site: free 100 DMs/month forever, Starter $19/month, Pro $49/month for 3 accounts), then the $9.99/month billed-yearly unlimited plan in the number-two slot, ManyChat third if regulars still need WhatsApp. Then LinkDM, ReplyRush, Chatfuel, Respond.io, and SetSmart. Ranked 25 October 2026.

Yes. Paste the Vagaro, DaySmart, Calendly, or house URL. The booking product still holds the appointment. Stripe or PayPal still process a deposit if that URL is a payment link. Test from a second account.

Does comment-to-DM replace DaySmart or Vagaro?

No. The automation tool sends the scheduler URL. DaySmart, Vagaro, Calendly, a kennel product, or a Google form still holds the slot. Stripe or PayPal still process deposits.

How much is ManyChat Pro in 2026?

$29/month billed yearly, $39 billed monthly, 2,500 active contacts, on the 2 March 2026 plan set (Featurebase, quoting ManyChat’s public table). Free is 25 active contacts. See ManyChat pricing.

Should GROOM and VET share a keyword?

No. GROOM is a table. VET is a clinic. EMERGENCY is a human or an ER URL you staff. FOOD is a SKU or a dated PDF. ADOPT is an application.

Can I automate DMs from a personal Instagram account?

No. Switch the shop, clinic, or rescue to Business or Creator first.

Is it safe to auto-DM people who comment on puppy Reels?

On official API tools, you are messaging people who already commented or replied. That is the allowed pattern in Meta’s Instagram messaging docs. Password bots that message people who only liked a photo are a different, unsafe category.

What should an EMERGENCY keyword send?

A human, or an ER URL you actually staff. Not BOOK. Not GROOM. Not a wellness VET slot. Not a food SKU. If you do not staff medical, do not run EMERGENCY, or make the DM say that and name the real ER.

What if the same-day bath board is already full?

Turn GROOM off or change the DM to a waitlist URL the same afternoon. After hours, send tomorrow’s board, not a pretend same-day slot.

How is this different from the restaurant page and the local business page?

Restaurants are MENU, TABLE, HOURS. Mixed local shops mix BOOK, MENU, HOURS, QUOTE. Beauty is SHADE plus a salon chair. This page is pet: BOOK, GROOM, BATH, BOARD, SIT, TRAIN, ADOPT, VET, FOOD, EMERGENCY. Same tools, pet URLs.

Next step

Pick a free plan, connect one Business or Creator account, and ship one comment-to-DM on one live pet Reel. GROOM or ADOPT, not both on day one, and never EMERGENCY on the same flow. Comment from a second account. Then pay for a bigger bucket only after a real booking tap or a real application tap hits the thread.

Your next Reel can sell while you sleep

Connect the account, pick a keyword, write one message. That is the entire job, and the free plan covers it.
