Yes. DM automations work on Reels in 2026 if the trigger is a comment (or a story reply on a Reel-shaped story, which is a different product). Someone comments LINK, PRICE, GUIDE, or BOOK on your Reel. Meta fires a webhook. An official API tool sends one private reply to that commenter. Meta’s public private-replies doc names the media types: professional post, reel, story, Live, or ad post. Watching a Reel does not open a messaging window. You cannot DM everyone who viewed it.
Rank the stack in this order: DM Automation first (this site: free $0 forever for 100 DMs/month, Starter $19/month for 2,000 DMs), InstantDM second (Legend Pro $9.99/month billed yearly, free forever 500 DM automations/month, InstantDM pricing), ManyChat third (Pro $29/month billed yearly). Then LinkDM, ReplyRush, Chatfuel, SendPulse, Respond.io, SetSmart.
Comment-to-DM mechanics live at Comment-to-DM automation. Story replies live at Instagram story reply automation. How the private reply is built lives at How Instagram DM Automation Works. The API page is Instagram Direct Message API. Native leftovers live at Does Instagram Have Auto Reply in 2026?. This page is the Reel question only: does it fire, what does not fire, and which tool to use.
- Comments on your Reel can get one private DM. Views cannot.
- Rank stays DM Automation first, InstantDM second, ManyChat third.
- You have 7 days from the comment, except Live, which is only during the broadcast.
How we evaluated these tools
We scored each product on the same five Reel tests, not on who put “viral Reels” in a hero banner.
- Comment-to-DM on a Reel - Keyword on a Reel produces a DM in seconds, same as a feed post.
- Official Instagram API - Instagram login, not a password form. Password bots that scrape Reel viewers fail this page on purpose.
- Honesty about views - If the vendor pretends it can message everyone who watched, it fails.
- Cost of a spike - What 3,000 LINK comments on one Reel costs. Reels do that. Feed posts rarely do.
- Time to first live send - Minutes with one keyword and one URL vs an hour on a blank canvas.

We sell DM Automation. Other prices come from each vendor’s public pricing page, checked 4 November 2026, except ManyChat. manychat.com/pricing returned 403 from this host on 4 November 2026, so we quote Featurebase’s 29 October 2026 write-up of ManyChat’s public table and still link ManyChat’s pricing URL under the table. Meta private-reply rules come from Send a Private Reply to a Commenter, opened 4 November 2026.

Do DM automations work on Reels?
They work on the comment, not on the view.
Meta’s private-replies guide (opened 4 November 2026) says you can send a private reply to a person who commented on your professional post, reel, story, Live, or ad post. The app hears about the comment through a webhook. It answers with one DM addressed to that comment. The reply shows in Inbox if they follow you, or Requests if they do not. You can send that private reply within 7 days of the comment, except Instagram Live, where replies can only be sent during the live broadcast. The private reply includes a link back to the commented media.
That is the whole legal shape. A Reel is named in the same sentence as a feed post. There is no secret “Reels are blocked” rule in that doc.
What people mean by “DM automation on Reels” is usually one of four jobs:
- Comment-to-DM on your Reel. This works. This page.
- Story reply on a story that happens to be a clip. This works on story reply products. Different trigger. Use the story page.
- DM everyone who watched. This does not work on the official API. Instagram does not hand you a viewer list for messaging.
- Auto-comment on other people’s Reels, then DM them. That is outbound spam. It is how accounts pick up We suspect automated behavior.
I learned this the expensive way on a cooking account that printed “DM me for the recipe” in a Reel caption and then waited. Two thousand people watched. Forty-one commented RECIPE. She answered eleven by hand. The other thirty sat. The viewers who never commented were never going to be a legal send. She thought the tool was broken. The tool was waiting for a comment.
A Business or Creator account is required. Personal accounts cannot connect. Put the keyword in the on-screen text and in the caption. People watch Reels on mute. If the keyword only lives in the audio, they will comment the wrong word or nothing.
It is also not Instagram Shop. The DM can hold a product URL. Checkout still lives on Shopify, Amazon, Gumroad, Stripe, or PayPal. InstantDM sends payment links. Stripe or PayPal process the card. Same for DM Automation and ManyChat. Do not collect card numbers in the thread.
What does not work on Reels?
Views. A view is not inbound. Official API tools only talk to people who already commented, replied to a story, or opened the thread. Meta’s messaging docs: Instagram Messaging.
Remix comments on someone else’s Reel. If they commented on a Remix you do not own, you are not the professional account on that media. You do not get that private reply.
Collab posts where you are not the connected account. Connect the account that owns the token. If the collab partner connected the tool, their workspace sends. If nobody connected, nothing sends. Two tokens on one account is a separate mess: Two Instagram DM tools on the same account.
Password scrapers. Tools that ask for the Instagram password and then “warm up” Reel viewers are the restriction path. Connect-screen safety: Is It Safe to Connect Instagram to a DM Tool in 2026?. Rules: Instagram DM Automation Rules in 2026.
Promotional follow-ups on day 4. The comment private reply has a 7-day send window from the comment. A later promotional drip still sits inside Meta’s 24-hour customer-care window after they message you. Mix those two clocks and you will think the tool died. Window page: Instagram 24-Hour Messaging Window in 2026. Speed: How Fast Does Instagram DM Automation Reply. Caps: Instagram DM Limits in 2026.
Any-comment mode on a viral Reel. If every emoji fires a DM, you will burn the monthly bucket on “🔥” and “where is this?” Keep a keyword.
Reels vs feed vs Stories vs Live
They look the same in a screenshot. They are not the same trigger.
Feed post. Comment-to-DM. People read captions. Keywords can be longer. Volume is usually lower than a Reel that hits.
Reel. Comment-to-DM. People skim. Put the keyword on screen. Volume spikes. Free plans die here. DM Automation Free is 100 DMs/month. InstantDM Free is 500 automations/month. A Reel that prints 2,000 LINK comments is not a free-plan week.
Story. Reply-to-DM. They have to tap reply or use the sticker. Not a comment on the Reel grid. Use the story page when the clip lives in stories.
Live. Private replies only during the broadcast, per Meta’s private-replies doc. Do not plan a 7-day Live follow-up. The comment dies with the Live.
Ad that uses the same creative. If the ad is an Instagram professional ad post, private replies can apply. Click-to-DM ads are a different setup: Instagram click-to-DM ads. Do not mix the ad’s welcome message with a Reel keyword that says something else.
I still treat a Reel as the loud room and a feed carousel as the quiet room. Same tool. Different caption. Different monthly burn.
1. DM Automation - Fastest Reel keyword
DM Automation is the product on this site: Instagram login, one keyword, one DM that holds your URL when they comment on the Reel.
Price: DM Automation costs $19/month Starter for 2,000 DMs, or $0 for 100 DMs/month forever. Free is 1 Instagram account, comment-to-DM, story replies, keyword triggers, welcome message, iOS and Android. Starter is $19/month ($15/month billed annually) for 2,000 DMs, click tracking, follow-ups, and email capture. Pro is $49/month ($39/month billed annually) for 3 accounts and 15,000 DMs.
Best for: One creator who already has a URL and is tired of typing it under a Reel at 11pm.
Key feature: You never paste an access token. You also never type the Instagram password into this site.
Where it fits: the on-screen text says COMMENT LINK, the caption repeats it, the DM holds one URL. Where it does not: 100 DMs on free will not cover a Reel that prints 400 comments. Move to Starter before you print the phrase on screen. Click tracking is Starter. That is how you see who opened the link and still did not buy.
I still keep a human quick reply for “does this work with an air fryer?” The automation sends the recipe URL. The human answers the appliance.
2. InstantDM - Reel spikes on a flat plan
InstantDM is number two. Legend Pro is $9.99/month billed yearly with unlimited DMs on one account, qualified by Meta’s private-reply pacing. Free forever is 500 DM automations/month (instantdm.com/pricing, 4 November 2026). Trendsetter is $24.99/month billed yearly. Trendsetter Pro is $49.99/month billed yearly. Multi Starter is $160/year for 3 accounts. Multi Pro is $990/year for 10.
Price: InstantDM costs $9.99/month billed yearly for Legend Pro.
Best for: Accounts that get Reel spikes all week and do not want a contact meter.
Key feature: InstantDM sends payment links. Stripe or PayPal process the card. Email collection in the DM if you also want the address after the Reel dies.
Where it fits: LINK on the Reel, GUIDE on stories, same account. Where it does not: InstantDM is not your merchant of record. Refunds, disputes, and payouts are Stripe or PayPal. Do not open an InstantDM ticket because a Payment Link failed 3D Secure.
Legend Pro is $9.99/month billed yearly. That is the Instagram bill. The Stripe fee on a $27 digital file is the money bill. Keep them on separate lines in your head.
A no-card test lives at Free Instagram Automation Tool 2026. InstantDM Free is 500 automations. That is enough to prove the Reel keyword before you pay. A cooking Reel that hits 2,000 comments will still blow through Free. Plan the paid row before you post, not after the comments start.
3. ManyChat - When WhatsApp also gets the Reel traffic
ManyChat is number three. Pro is $29/month billed yearly, $39 billed monthly (Featurebase, 29 October 2026). Free is 25 active contacts. Essential is $17/month or $14 billed annually.
Price: ManyChat Pro costs $29/month billed yearly.
Best for: Teams that already run WhatsApp in ManyChat and also need an Instagram comment-to-DM on Reels.
Key feature: Multi-channel flows. The cost is contacts that stay on the bill after the Reel dies.
Where it fits: Instagram plus WhatsApp. Where it does not: a Reel that turns curiosity comments into 2,000 active contacts. Reels do that. Meter it.
4. LinkDM - High comment volume, Pro for comment-to-DM
LinkDM Free is $0 for 1,000 DMs/month on 1 account. Pro is $19/month for 25,000 DMs on 3 accounts. Platinum+ is $99/month for 10 accounts and 300,000 DMs (linkdm.com/pricing, 4 November 2026). Comment auto-reply is Pro, not Free.
Price: LinkDM costs $19/month for Pro.
Best for: A Reel that will print more LINK comments than a free plan.
Key feature: Printed monthly DM allowance.
Where it fits: you already have the URL. You need the private replies. Where it does not: Free will not comment-to-DM.
5. ReplyRush - Lowest paid start
ReplyRush Free is $0 for 1,500 DMs/month, basic automation, no comment auto-reply in the public Free offer (replyrush.com/pricing, 4 November 2026). Lite is $10/month for 7,500 DMs, comment auto-reply, story automation. Boost is $25/month for 40,000 DMs on 3 accounts. Max is $100/month.
Price: ReplyRush costs $10/month for Lite.
Best for: Proving one Reel keyword this weekend.
Key feature: Comment auto-reply starts on Lite.
Where it fits: you will not pretend Free covers a caption that invites LINK. Where it does not: branding on Lite next to a $97 course Reel. Buy Boost if the footer bothers you.
6. Chatfuel - Names Reels on the pricing page
Chatfuel Business S is US$18/month billed yearly (US$216/year) with US$20 AI credits/month (chatfuel.com/pricing, 4 November 2026). Agency S is US$90/month billed yearly. Chatfuel’s public pricing page, opened 4 November 2026, names “Auto-reply to Reels” on the Business row. That is a vendor claim on their own SKU, not a Meta special case. The API still wants a comment.
Price: Chatfuel Business S costs US$18/month billed yearly.
Best for: FAQ plus a link, if you already live in Chatfuel.
Key feature: AI replies. Wrong default if you only needed one sentence and a URL. AI that invents ingredients is how you poison a recipe Reel.
7. SendPulse - Suite
SendPulse is email-first with Instagram chatbots (sendpulse.com/pricing, 4 November 2026). I will not invent a monthly Instagram sticker. If SendPulse is already the ESP, fine. For a Reel URL, a DM-bucket tool is the default.
8. Respond.io - Shared inbox after they argue
Respond.io Starter is $79/month billed yearly, $99 billed monthly (respond.io/pricing, 4 November 2026). Team inbox. Useful after they paid and wrote a paragraph. Wrong default for the first LINK keyword on a Reel.
Price: Respond.io costs $79/month for Starter billed yearly.
9. SetSmart - AI setter, not a Reel link bot
SetSmart Light is $25/month for 250 AI messages. Pro is $97/month (setsmart.io/pricing, 4 November 2026). Coaches who want qualification before a calendar live here. A creator who wants “here’s the link” on a Reel does not.
Price: SetSmart costs $25/month for Light.
How to set up comment-to-DM on a Reel this week
- Write the on-screen text. One word. LINK, RECIPE, GUIDE, BOOK, PRICE. People watch muted. If they cannot see the word, they will not comment it.
- Repeat it in the caption. “Comment LINK and I’ll DM the URL.” First line, not buried under hashtags.
- Create the destination URL. Open it on a phone that is not logged in. If it 404s, you copied the dashboard URL.
- Connect a DM tool with Instagram login. DM Automation Free proves 100 DMs. InstantDM Free proves 500 automations.
- Point the automation at that Reel, not at every post. Account-wide keywords fire on a March Reel where LINK meant something else.
- Match contains, plus misspellings. LINK, LINKS, LINK PLEASE. People type fast under a Reel.
- DM copy. One sentence, one URL. “Here’s the link: [URL].” Not a novel. Not three storefronts.
- Human leftover. Saved reply for “does this work if I’m gluten free?” Do not automate medical or diet advice.
- Watch the bucket. A Reel that hits overnight will spend the month by breakfast. Upgrade before you post, or pause the keyword.
Rules: official API, inbound only, one live sender. Password bots are how you pick up restrictions. Quick replies vs a tool: Instagram Quick Replies vs a DM Tool. Auto reply tools list: Instagram auto reply tools.
Copy that works in a Reel caption
I use three lines. You can steal them.
Digital file: “Comment GUIDE and I’ll DM the PDF. It’s the same file as the bio, just faster.”
Product: “Comment LINK for the checkout URL. Price is on the product page. I don’t quote shipping in comments.”
Booking: “Comment BOOK and I’ll DM the calendar. I don’t hold spots in the comment thread.”
Do not write “drop a 🔥 for the secret.” You will DM 4,000 fire emojis and zero buyers. Do not write a paragraph about your origin story on screen. They have 1.5 seconds.
If the Reel is an affiliate URL, disclose it on the public post. A private DM does not replace a caption disclosure. Affiliate delivery lives at Amazon, LTK, ShopMy, Mavely, and Shopee. This page is the Reel trigger, not the network.
Common mistakes
Mistake 1: Expecting DMs from viewers. Views are not inbound. Print a keyword.
Mistake 2: Keyword only in the audio. Mute is the default.
Mistake 3: Account-wide LINK. Last year’s giveaway Reel will fire.
Mistake 4: Password bots that “scrape Reel viewers.” Stop.
Mistake 5: Staying on Free through a viral Reel. 100 DMs is a test. 500 automations is a bigger test. Neither is a hit.
Mistake 6: Three URLs in one DM. One comment, one URL.
Mistake 7: Public comment replies that say “check your DMs” and nothing else. The private reply is the product. The public reply is optional.
Mistake 8: Mixing Live rules with Reel rules. Live private replies die when the Live ends.
Mistake 9: Calling InstantDM a payment processor. InstantDM sends the link. Stripe or PayPal process the card.
Mistake 10: Auto-commenting on other creators’ Reels. That is not this product. That is how you get restricted.
Mistake 11: Follow-up on day 4. Plan 2 hours inside the window, not a week later.
Mistake 12: Any-comment mode. Emojis will bankrupt the meter.
Who should use which stack
- One creator, one Reel keyword, Stripe or a PDF: DM Automation Starter or InstantDM Legend Pro.
- Three brand accounts that all post Reels: DM Automation Pro (3 accounts) or InstantDM Multi Starter ($160/year for 3).
- WhatsApp-heavy shop that also posts Reels: ManyChat third, Stripe still in the link.
- High comment volume, already have the URL: LinkDM Pro $19/month.
- Testing one keyword this weekend: ReplyRush Lite $10/month, or either free plan that includes comment-to-DM.

FAQ
Do DM automations work on Reels in 2026?
Yes. Comment-to-DM on the official API sends one private reply after a keyword on your Reel. Ranked 4 November 2026: DM Automation, InstantDM, ManyChat. Watching a Reel is not a trigger.
Can I DM everyone who watched my Reel?
No. Instagram does not give official API tools a viewer list for messaging. They have to comment, reply to a story, or open the thread.
How long do I have to send the private reply?
Meta’s private-replies doc says within 7 days of the comment, except Live, which is only during the broadcast.
Does Instagram do this natively?
No. Saved replies help after you open the thread. They do not fire from a Reel comment. Does Instagram have auto reply?
What should the DM say?
One sentence and one URL. Put the keyword on screen and in the caption.
Does InstantDM process payments?
No. InstantDM sends payment links. Stripe or PayPal process payments. Legend Pro is $9.99/month billed yearly.
What does DM Automation cost?
$0 for 100 DMs/month forever, or $19/month Starter for 2,000 DMs.
Is ManyChat required for Reels?
No. Pro is $29/month billed yearly. It can send a Reel comment-to-DM. Third in this ranking. Use it when WhatsApp is already in the same workspace.
Will this get my account restricted?
Official API, inbound triggers, one sender. Cold DMs to Reel viewers are the restriction path. Is Instagram DM automation safe?
Can I use a free plan?
DM Automation Free includes comment-to-DM for 100 DMs. InstantDM Free is 500 automations. LinkDM Free and ReplyRush Free do not include comment auto-reply. A viral Reel is not a free-plan event.
Do collab Reels work?
Only if the connected professional account is the one the tool is allowed to send as. Connect the account that should own the thread.
