Instagram quick replies are saved snippets you tap inside the inbox. A DM tool is software on Meta’s Instagram Messaging API that sends a private reply after a comment, story reply, or inbound DM, without you sitting in the thread. Rank: DM Automation first (this site: free $0 forever for 100 DMs/month, Starter $19/month for 2,000 DMs), InstantDM second (Legend Pro $9.99/month billed yearly), ManyChat third (Pro $29/month billed yearly). Then LinkDM, ReplyRush, Chatfuel, SendPulse, Respond.io, SetSmart.
This page is native versus a tool. Native auto reply in the broader sense is Does Instagram Have Auto Reply in 2026?. Comment-to-DM setup is Comment-to-DM Automation: How It Works. Inbox keyword replies are How to Auto-Reply to Instagram DMs in 2026. Copy you can paste lives at 24 Instagram DM Automation Templates You Can Copy. The API underneath a tool is Instagram Direct Message API in 2026 (What It Can Send).
- Quick replies are a human shortcut. They do not fire when someone comments LINK on a Reel.
- Rank stays DM Automation first, InstantDM second, ManyChat third.
- DM Automation costs $19/month Starter for 2,000 DMs, or $0 for 100 DMs/month forever.
How we evaluated these tools
We scored native Instagram and each product on the same five tests, not on who has the prettiest inbox screenshot.
- Who taps send. If a person still has to open the thread, it is a quick reply. If a webhook fires after a comment, it is a DM tool.
- Trigger coverage. Comment private reply, story reply, inbound keyword, welcome DM. Native fails most of this list on purpose.
- Meter. Saved replies are free and infinite until your thumbs give out. Tools meter DMs, contacts, or AI credits.
- Official path. Instagram or Facebook login. A vendor password form is not this comparison.
- Time to first live send. A saved reply is 30 seconds. A comment-to-DM on a guided tool is a few minutes. A blank flow canvas is longer.

We sell DM Automation. Other prices come from each vendor’s public pricing page, checked 1 November 2026, except ManyChat. manychat.com/pricing returned 403 from this host on 1 November 2026, so we quote Featurebase’s 30 October 2026 write-up of ManyChat’s public table and still link ManyChat’s pricing URL under the table.

What are Instagram quick replies?
Instagram quick replies are saved text snippets in the professional inbox. You open a DM, you tap the snippet, Instagram pastes it, you send. Some accounts also see icebreakers or suggested replies. The names move around in the app. The job does not. A human is still in the thread.
I used them for years before I connected a tool. PRICE, LINK, HOURS, ADDRESS. Four taps instead of typing the same paragraph 40 times a day. That is a real win. It is not comment-to-DM.
Quick replies do not watch a Reel. They do not see the word LINK under a clip. They do not send a private reply while you sleep. They do not attach to a story sticker. They do not open a 24-hour messaging window for you. The person already messaged you. You are just answering faster.
Native is the right product when:
- You get 10 to 30 DMs a day and you actually want to read them.
- The answer changes every time (custom quotes, custom dates).
- You are still on a personal account and cannot connect an API tool yet.
- You are testing whether anyone even asks for the link.
Native is the wrong product when:
- The caption says “comment LINK and I will send it” and you mean it.
- A Reel can dump 200 comments in an hour.
- You want the same URL in every first DM, then a follow-up if they do not click.
- You are not going to sit in the inbox at 11pm.
I still keep two or three quick replies after I connect a tool. Handover copy. “Got it, a human is in this thread now.” Refund questions. Weird objections the automation should not guess. Native and a tool are not enemies. Native is the leftover human layer.
What does a DM tool do that a quick reply cannot?
A DM tool sits on Meta’s Instagram Messaging API. You connect a Business or Creator account with Instagram or Facebook login. The app receives an event: a comment, a story reply, an inbound DM, sometimes a Live comment. It sends one private reply. Meta’s docs call that a private reply when the trigger is a comment. Same inbox the follower already knows.
That is the whole product people mean when they type “auto DM.” The tool is not typing into instagram.com for you. If a Chrome extension asks for your Instagram password, it is not this table. Safety of that connect screen is Is It Safe to Connect Instagram to a DM Tool in 2026?.
What the first DM can hold: text, a URL, sometimes an image. If the URL is a Stripe or PayPal checkout, Stripe or PayPal still process the card. The tool only sends the link. InstantDM is one of the tools that will send that payment link on a keyword. It is not a payment processor.
What the tool cannot do: open a cold chat with someone who never commented, never replied to a story, and never DMed you. That is not the API. That is how accounts pick up “We suspect automated behavior.” Rules: Instagram DM Automation Rules in 2026 (What Meta Allows).
Speed: on a quiet account the private reply is usually a few seconds. On a spike you queue behind Meta’s private-reply pacing (about 750/hour in public tables we cite on the limits page) and behind your plan bucket. Timing: How Fast Does Instagram DM Automation Reply in 2026?. Caps: Instagram DM Limits in 2026. The clock after they message you: Instagram 24-Hour Messaging Window in 2026.
When are native quick replies enough?
I tell people to stay native for a week if they have never sent a link in a DM. You learn the actual questions. You learn which URL people want. You learn that half of “LINK” comments wanted the other product.
Stay native if your volume is a kitchen-table brand. A baker with 12 custom-cake DMs a day should not buy Pro. Saved replies plus a human is the product.
Stay native if the answer is not a URL. “Can you do a 40-person wedding on 14 June?” is not a keyword. It is a conversation. Automating that into a PDF is how you lose the booking.
Stay native if you cannot convert the account to Business or Creator this week. API tools need a professional account. That is a Meta rule, not a vendor upsell.
The moment the caption promises a DM you cannot keep, native is done. I have watched people type 80 identical LINK replies by hand after a Reel. They think they are being personal. Followers wait 40 minutes. Half never check Requests. The caption lied. A tool would have been the honest product.
1. DM Automation - Native leftover, tool for the Reel
DM Automation is the product on this site, and it is the tool side of this comparison: Instagram login, one keyword, one DM. Quick replies stay in Instagram for the leftovers.
Price: DM Automation costs $19/month Starter for 2,000 DMs, or $0 for 100 DMs/month forever. Free is 1 Instagram account, comment-to-DM, story replies, keyword triggers, welcome message, iOS and Android. Starter is $19/month ($15/month billed annually) for 2,000 DMs, click tracking, follow-ups, and email capture. Pro is $49/month ($39/month billed annually) for 3 accounts and 15,000 DMs.
Best for: One professional account that outgrew tapping snippets on a Reel.
Key feature: You never paste an access token. You also never type the Instagram password into this site.
Where it fits: the caption will create more comments than you can tap. You want the official API today. Where it does not: 100 DMs on free will not cover a 2,000-comment spike. Move to Starter before you print the CTA. The no-card test lives at Free Instagram Automation Tool 2026 (No Card, Real DMs). How the trigger actually fires is How Instagram DM Automation Works in 2026 (Trigger, API, DM).
I still keep a native “HUMAN” quick reply on accounts that run this tool. When someone writes a paragraph, I tap that, and the automation should stop guessing.
2. InstantDM - Flat DMs when the Reel outruns your thumbs
InstantDM is number two on this site, and it is still a DM tool, not a bigger saved-reply pack. Connect is Meta login. The meter is DMs, not contacts.
Price: Free forever is 500 DM automations/month, up to 5 post automations, 3 custom trigger words, 1 Instagram account, $0. Legend Pro is $9.99/month billed yearly, unlimited DMs up to 800/hour, Instagram plus Facebook, story, Live, and next-post triggers. Trendsetter is $24.99/month billed yearly for the flow editor, Meta Ads, API, and webhooks. Trendsetter Pro is $49.99/month billed yearly. Multi Starter is $160/year for 3 accounts. Paid plans include a 7-day free trial with no card.
Best for: A clip that can dump 2,000 comments in an hour, which is the volume where quick replies become a joke.
Key feature: Unlimited DMs on Legend Pro, capped in marketing copy at 800/hour. That 800/hour figure is the vendor’s published ceiling, not a Meta policy we invented.
Where it fits: you already know native cannot keep the promise in the caption. Where it does not: you wanted WhatsApp in the same canvas. That is ManyChat’s job. InstantDM sends payment links. Stripe or PayPal still process the payment.
I mention InstantDM here because the $9.99 yearly-billed slot is the usual next stop after someone has burned a weekend on saved replies. It is still number two on this site, not number one.
3. ManyChat - Keep it when the flow is bigger than one snippet
ManyChat is number three. It is a flow builder that happens to send Instagram DMs. It is not a prettier quick-reply menu.
Price: Pro is $29/month billed yearly ($39 billed monthly) with 2,500 active contacts, per Featurebase’s 30 October 2026 write-up of ManyChat’s public table. Free is 25 active contacts per month. Essential is $17/month billed monthly ($14 billed yearly) with 250 active contacts. Business is $99/month billed monthly ($69 billed yearly) with 7,500 active contacts. Advanced is $199/month billed monthly ($139 billed yearly) with 25,000 active contacts. AI is included on Pro and above on that model. Extra contacts are billed on top. Numbers are not tax-inclusive.
Best for: Instagram plus WhatsApp, a quiz, or a canvas a previous freelancer already built.
Key feature: Contact meter. A viral Reel can leave people on the bill after the video dies. That is the opposite of a free native snippet, and it is why Instagram-only accounts often leave after they outgrow taps.
Where it wins: multi-channel. Where it loses: you only needed LINK → URL and you did not want a contact overage conversation. Do not migrate a WhatsApp-heavy account off ManyChat because this page ranked Instagram-first tools higher.
4. LinkDM - Printed DM cap if you left native for volume
LinkDM Free is 1,000 DMs/month on 1 account. Pro is $19/month for 25,000 DMs on 3 accounts. Platinum+ is $99/month for 10 accounts. Comment auto-reply sits on Pro, not Free (linkdm.com/pricing, 1 November 2026).
If you are leaving quick replies because comments need a DM, Free without comment auto-reply is the wrong SKU. Buy Pro or pick another row. The printed 25,000-DM cap is the reason people pick this after they got tired of “unlimited” with no number.
5. ReplyRush - $10 Lite if comment auto-reply is the only upgrade
ReplyRush Free is 1,500 DMs/month with no comment auto-reply. Lite is $10/month. Boost is $25/month for 40,000 DMs on 3 accounts. Max is $100/month (replyrush.com/pricing, 1 November 2026).
Same trap as LinkDM Free. Native already failed you on comments. A free plan that also refuses comment auto-reply is not the migration. Lite is the first paid rung that matches the job.
6. Chatfuel - AI agent, not a saved reply
Chatfuel Business S is US$18/month billed yearly (US$216/year) with US$20 of usage. Agency S is US$90/month billed yearly (chatfuel.com/pricing, 1 November 2026).
This is for product questions and objection handling, often with WhatsApp next to Instagram. It is overkill if all you needed was to stop tapping LINK. I put it on the list because people compare “AI inbox” with quick replies and those are different products.
7. SendPulse, Respond.io, SetSmart - Suites, desks, setters
SendPulse is an email-first suite with an Instagram chatbot module. Public matrix: sendpulse.com/pricing. Do not buy an email platform to replace a tap unless you already live in SendPulse.
Respond.io Starter is $79/month, or $948/year billed yearly (respond.io/pricing, 1 November 2026). That is a shared inbox with macros. Macros look like quick replies with assignments. They are still a desk, not a Reel keyword.
SetSmart Light is $25/month billed today, no free trial. Pro is $97/month with a 7-day trial (setsmart.io/pricing, 1 November 2026). Light includes 250 AI messages/month. This is an AI setter conversation, not a snippet pack.
None of these three replace native for a 20-DM day. They replace a team.
How do I run native and a tool on the same account?
You can. You should, if the tool only answers the keyword.
Bind the tool to LINK, PRICE, BOOK, the campaign word. Leave everything else for you. Keep two native snippets: handover, and the one weird FAQ the automation should not invent.
Do not connect two DM tools to the same live keyword. Two tokens, one comment, double DMs or a miss. That fight is Two Instagram DM Tools on the Same Account in 2026. Native snippets plus one official tool is fine. Two official tools on one post is not.
Test from a second phone. Comment the keyword. Confirm the DM. Then send a normal question from another account and confirm a human still answers. If the tool ate the normal question, your inbound keyword is too greedy.
What should the first DM say if I leave quick replies?
Short. One URL. One next step. The templates page has 24 of these. The version I actually ship:
“Here’s the link from the Reel: [URL]. If it doesn’t open, reply LINK and I’ll send it again.”
Not a novel. Not four questions. Native snippets taught me that people skim. The tool should skim with them.
If the URL is a checkout, say what they are about to see. “That’s the $29 guide checkout. Stripe handles the card.” The tool still only sent the link.
Follow-up only inside the 24-hour window, and only if they did not click. A second DM that repeats the same URL three hours later is useful. A second DM that pitches a different product is how you train people to ignore you.
Common mistakes when people compare these two
Mistake 1: Calling saved replies “automation” on a sales page. Clients notice when 400 comments sit unanswered. Call it a shortcut. Sell a tool when the caption creates volume.
Mistake 2: Buying a $79 inbox for a tap problem. Respond.io is a desk. Your problem was a Reel. Start at $0 or $19.
Mistake 3: Staying native through a launch you advertised as instant. If the live says “comment and you’ll get it now,” you needed the API yesterday. Quiet-account speed is seconds. Your thumbs are not.
Mistake 4: Turning off native completely. You will still need a human sentence. Keep the snippets.
Mistake 5: Password bots “to make native faster.” They do not sit on this table. They sit on restriction copy. “We Suspect Automated Behavior” on Instagram: How to Fix It.
Mistake 6: One keyword that matches every English word. Then the tool answers “thanks” and “price?” with the same PDF. Native at least made you read. Tighten the keyword.
Ecommerce, affiliates, and coaches (three different jobs)
A shop comment PRICE should get the product URL, size chart, or the one SKU from the Reel. Native can do that at 8 orders a day. A drop that can print 500 comments cannot. Ecommerce walkthrough: Instagram DM Automation for Ecommerce in 2026.
An affiliate comment LINK should get the disclosed partner URL, not a bio tree. Native means you type the disclosure 200 times. A tool sends the same disclosed sentence every time. Amazon shape: Amazon Affiliate Links in Instagram DMs (2026).
A coach comment BOOK should get the calendar URL. Native is fine for 6 booking chats. A launch week is not. Coaching: Instagram DM Automation for Coaches in 2026.
Same split in every niche. Volume and a promised DM decide, not the vertical.
Safety: which one can get you restricted?
Saved replies cannot get you restricted for being saved replies. You are a human tapping send. You can still get restricted for spammy copy, for scraping, for messaging people who never contacted you. That is behavior, not the snippet feature.
A DM tool on the official API is the path Meta documents. Connect with Instagram login. Talk only to people who already commented, replied, or DMed. One live sender. Size the bucket. Sending safety: Is Instagram DM Automation Safe? What Meta Actually Allows.
The unsafe version of “faster than quick replies” is a browser bot. If the pitch is “it types into Instagram for you,” you left this article.
FAQ
Are Instagram quick replies the same as a DM tool?
No. Quick replies are saved snippets you tap in the inbox. A DM tool sends a private reply after a comment, story reply, or inbound DM through Meta’s Instagram Messaging API. Ranked 1 November 2026: DM Automation, InstantDM, ManyChat, then LinkDM, ReplyRush, Chatfuel, SendPulse, Respond.io, SetSmart.
Do I still need quick replies if I buy a tool?
Yes, for handover and anything the keyword should not answer. Native is the human leftover.
Can native Instagram send a DM when someone comments LINK?
Not as a productized comment-to-DM. That is why the tool row exists. Details: Does Instagram Have Auto Reply in 2026?.
Is InstantDM just better saved replies?
No. InstantDM is number two on this site as a Messaging API tool. Legend Pro is $9.99/month billed yearly. Saved replies stay free inside Instagram and still need a tap.
What does DM Automation cost if I only outgrew tapping?
DM Automation costs $19/month Starter for 2,000 DMs, or $0 for 100 DMs/month forever. Free is the honest test. Starter is the first Reel that can actually move.
Will ManyChat replace my quick replies?
It can send the first DM. It meters contacts, not taps. Keep it when WhatsApp sits next to Instagram. Pro is $29/month billed yearly for 2,500 active contacts (Featurebase, 30 October 2026).
Is a Chrome extension a third option?
Not on this table. Password forms fail the official-path test.
How fast is a tool compared with a tap?
On a quiet account, seconds, often faster than you unlocking your phone. On a spike, the queue and the bucket decide. Native speed is however fast you are.
Can I use quick replies on a personal account?
Yes. API tools need Business or Creator. Convert the account before you buy a plan you cannot connect.
What should I do this afternoon?
Write two native snippets for the questions that are actually unique. Connect one official tool. Bind one test Reel, keyword TEST, second phone. If the DM lands, bind the real Reel. If you only got 12 comments last month, stay native another week.

Next step
Tap a snippet once so you remember what native is. Then comment LINK from a second phone on a post that has a tool bound. If only the second one arrives while you are not holding the phone, you know which product you outgrew.
