Instagram DM automation for teachers and courses in 2026 is comment-to-DM that sends a waitlist, lesson PDF, or enrollment URL, not a second classroom. Someone comments ENROLL, WAITLIST, or LESSON on a Reel. The DM arrives in seconds with one course page, Google Form, or file URL. Teachable, Thinkific, your school portal, or Gumroad still hosts the lessons. Stripe or PayPal still process the enrollment fee if you charge on that page. The automation tool only sends the link.
Rank the stack in this order: DM Automation first (this site: free 100 DMs/month, Starter $19/month), InstantDM second (Legend Pro $9.99/month billed yearly, InstantDM pricing, October 2026), ManyChat third if you also need WhatsApp. Then LinkDM Pro $19/month, ReplyRush Lite $10/month, Chatfuel Business from US$18/month billed yearly.
Prices below come from each vendor’s public pricing page, checked 16 October 2026, except ManyChat’s public table which we quote from Featurebase’s 7 October 2026 write-up of ManyChat’s March 2026 plans and link to ManyChat pricing.

What is Instagram DM automation for teachers?
Instagram DM automation for teachers is software that replies, through Meta’s official API, when a student or parent comments or messages you first. The usual trigger is a keyword on a teaching Reel, a launch story, or a “lesson 1 is free” post. The usual action is a DM that holds one URL: a waitlist form, a course landing page, a free lesson PDF, or a cohort calendar.
It is not a learning management system. It does not host video lessons, grade homework, or run Zoom. Teachable, Thinkific, Kajabi, Google Classroom, or whatever you already use still does that work. The DM is the handoff from a 45-second explanation Reel to a URL the person can tap without hunting through the bio.
It is also not a cold-outreach bot. Tools that ask for the Instagram password and then message strangers “hey, I have a course for you” are a different category. Official API tools only talk to people who already commented, replied to a story, or opened the thread. Meta’s rules live in the Instagram messaging docs.
Teachers on Instagram are usually independent educators: language tutors, exam prep, music, design, cooking, professional certificates. This page is not a K-12 school district playbook. If you need parent permission slips and a SIS, keep Instagram as a marketing surface and put enrollment on the school site.
The job splits into three URLs you should not mix in one DM:
- Waitlist / early-bird form (cohort not open yet)
- Paid course landing page (cohort is open, or evergreen checkout)
- Free lesson PDF or sample (lead magnet, then the paid URL later)
Pick one per Reel. A Reel that teaches one concept should send the sample or the waitlist, not both plus a 12-module outline.
How we ranked these tools for teachers
Five criteria, same weight for every product:
- Comment-to-DM with a course or waitlist URL - Keyword on a post or Reel produces a DM in seconds. That is the whole teaching job on day one.
- Story replies - Launch week lives in stories. “Reply WAITLIST” has to work, not just feed comments.
- Official Instagram API - Instagram login, not a password form.
- Cost of a launch week - What 1,200 ENROLL comments in a day costs. Flat DM buckets beat per-contact bills when a cohort Reel hits.
- Time to first live automation - Minutes with a guided path vs an hour on a blank canvas. Most teachers do not need an AI tutor on day one.

Chatfuel: chatfuel.com/pricing. ManyChat Pro $29/month billed yearly, $39 billed monthly, 2,500 active contacts (Featurebase, 7 October 2026, quoting ManyChat’s public March 2026 table). 1. DM Automation - Fastest waitlist setup
DM Automation is the product on this site. Free forever: 1 Instagram account, 100 automated DMs a month, comment-to-DM, story replies, keyword triggers, welcome message, iOS and Android. Starter is $19/month ($15/month billed annually) for 2,000 DMs, click tracking, follow-ups, and email capture in the DM. Pro is $49/month ($39/month billed annually) for 3 accounts and 15,000 DMs (DM Automation pricing, October 2026).
Teacher setup is short. Connect a Business or Creator account through Instagram login. Point the automation at one teaching Reel. Set the keyword to ENROLL, WAITLIST, or LESSON. Paste the waitlist form or course URL. Publish. Comment from a second account to test.
Where it fits: you want the first waitlist automation live today, and a free plan that is not a 7-day countdown. A teacher testing whether comment-to-DM even fills a cohort should start here.
Where it does not: 100 DMs/month on free will not cover a launch week that actually works. One spike of 2,000 comments fills Starter for the month. Upgrade to Pro, or pick a bigger published bucket (LinkDM Pro at 25,000 DMs), when volume shows up.
The teaching concession is honest. DM Automation does not host modules, take attendance, or process enrollment fees. Your LMS and Stripe or PayPal still do that work. If students need a 12-step quiz (“which CEFR level are you”) inside the thread before they see a URL, Chatfuel or ManyChat’s canvas is the better builder.
2. InstantDM - $9.99 Legend Pro for unlimited DMs
InstantDM is number two on this site. Legend Pro is $9.99/month billed yearly with unlimited DMs (up to 800 an hour), Instagram plus Facebook, and story, Live, and next-post triggers. Trendsetter is $24.99/month billed yearly for the flow editor, Meta Ads, API, and webhooks. Trendsetter Pro is $49.99/month billed yearly. 7-day free trial, no card (instantdm.com/pricing, October 2026).
For teachers, the job InstantDM does well is the same job as DM Automation: keyword on a Reel, course or waitlist URL in the DM. The difference is the bill after launch week. Unlimited DMs on a flat $9.99 yearly-billed plan means 1,200 ENROLL comments in a day does not fill a monthly bucket. You still respect Meta’s throughput. You do not pay per contact forever.
It sends payment links in DMs. Stripe or PayPal still process the enrollment fee. InstantDM is not a course platform and not a checkout. If the course already lives on Teachable, paste that URL. If you sell a single workshop with a Stripe Payment Link, paste that. The automation does not become the school.
Use InstantDM when you want unlimited DMs on a small flat bill and you already have a course URL. Use LinkDM when you prefer a published monthly DM cap you can see on the invoice. Use ManyChat when WhatsApp has to sit in the same canvas as class reminders.
A second InstantDM mention belongs here because teachers often ask if the tool “includes the course.” It does not. It sends the link to the course you already built.
3. ManyChat - Multi-channel canvas, contact pricing
ManyChat is number three. It is the right pick when Instagram is not the only inbox. Pro is $29/month billed yearly ($39 billed monthly) with 2,500 active contacts, broadcasts, and AI conversations on the March 2026 plan set (Featurebase, 7 October 2026, quoting ManyChat’s public table). Free is 25 active contacts per month. Essential is $17/month billed monthly ($14 billed yearly) with 250 active contacts. Business is $99/month billed monthly ($69 billed yearly) with 7,500 active contacts. Numbers are not tax-inclusive; ManyChat prices by billing country. See ManyChat pricing.
Teachers buy ManyChat when the class already lives on WhatsApp, or when a flowchart has to ask “beginner or intermediate?” then ship the matching waitlist. That canvas is real. It is also why first-time setup takes longer than a guided comment-to-DM form.
The cost trap is contacts, not DMs. If a launch Reel produces 2,000 new people, those people can stay on the contact meter. A flat Instagram DM bucket (DM Automation Starter, LinkDM Pro, InstantDM Legend Pro) bills the messages. ManyChat bills the people. If you do not need WhatsApp, you are paying for a suite you will not open.
Where it wins: you already run a WhatsApp class group, and Instagram comment-to-DM is one more channel on the same canvas.
Where it loses: a single independent teacher who only needs WAITLIST → Google Form. That teacher should not start on a contact-priced canvas.
4. LinkDM - $19 Pro for launch volume
LinkDM Free is 1,000 DMs/month on 1 account. Pro is $19/month for 25,000 DMs on 3 accounts. Platinum+ is $99/month for 300,000 DMs on 10 accounts (LinkDM pricing, October 2026).
Teachers like published caps during launch week. You can look at last cohort’s comment volume and know whether Free covers the test. 1,000 DMs is enough to learn if ENROLL converts. Pro at 25,000 DMs is the plan that survives a real launch without an emergency upgrade while you are on a Live.
LinkDM is built around sending links in DMs. That matches the waitlist job more tightly than a full CRM inbox. It will not replace Chatfuel if students need a bot that answers “is this the April cohort or the June one.” It will replace you pasting the same Teachable URL two hundred times.
Where it fits: one course per post, high comment volume, you want the invoice to say DMs not contacts.
Where it does not: you need WhatsApp class chat, a shared TA inbox, or an AI that places students by level. Those are ManyChat and Chatfuel jobs.
5. ReplyRush - $10 Lite if the cohort is still small
ReplyRush Free is 1,500 DMs/month. Lite is $10/month for 7,500 DMs. Boost is $25/month for 40,000 DMs. Max is $100/month for 400,000 DMs (ReplyRush pricing, October 2026). Comment auto-reply is not on the free plan.
For a new teacher, $10 Lite is the cheapest paid Instagram bucket that still covers a decent launch. 7,500 DMs is more than DM Automation Starter’s 2,000, at a lower sticker. Starter still wins if you want click tracking and email capture inside the DM on this site’s product.
Use ReplyRush when the only job is comment-to-DM and you want the lowest paid start. Move up when 7,500 is not enough, or when you want the guided setup and tracking on DM Automation Starter.
6. Chatfuel - AI answers for dates, timezone, refunds
Chatfuel Business is US$18/month billed yearly (US$216/year) or US$20/month billed monthly, with a trial (Chatfuel pricing, October 2026). Agency is US$90/month billed yearly.
Chatfuel is the teaching pick when the first DM cannot be a single URL. Live cohorts are the obvious case. The student comments ENROLL, then asks if it is recorded, then asks about refunds, then asks about timezone. A static landing page still helps. An AI agent that answers from your syllabus PDF helps more.
You pay for that with setup time and a higher floor than ReplyRush Lite at $10. If 90% of comments are “waitlist” and 10% are real questions, start with DM Automation or LinkDM and only move to Chatfuel when the inbox is full of policy threads.
Chatfuel is not an LMS. Lessons, homework, and certificates stay on Teachable, Thinkific, or your classroom tool. The bot should send the enrollment URL, not invent a start date.
How does comment-to-DM send a course link?
The flow is the same on every official API tool.
- Switch the Instagram account to Business or Creator. Personal accounts have no API access. Switching is free in Instagram settings.
- Connect the tool through Instagram login. If a form asks for your password, close it.
- Pick one teaching Reel, not the whole grid. One promise on screen, one URL in the DM.
- Set one keyword. ENROLL, WAITLIST, LESSON, or NOTES. Short, easy to type, printed on the video.
- Write a short DM with one URL. If money changes hands, Stripe or PayPal process it. The automation tool sends the link.
- Optional: a public comment reply (“sent”) so the thread still looks alive.
- Publish, then comment from a second account to test. If the DM takes minutes, fix the connection before you spend ad budget on the Reel.
Related: Comment-to-DM automation: setup, copy and mistakes is the generic setup. Keep this page for the course-URL version.
Meta’s 24-hour messaging window is not a problem here. The person commented ninety seconds ago. You are inside the window by design. Details sit in the Instagram messaging docs.
Waitlist, lesson PDF, or paid enrollment?
Do not send all three in the first DM. Pick the job of the Reel.
Waitlist. The cohort is not open. The URL is a Google Form, Beehiiv, or your email tool. You want the email now so you can email when doors open. Put WAITLIST on screen. Do not pretend they can start tonight.
Lesson PDF. The Reel taught one idea. The PDF is the worksheet. The URL can be a free Gumroad file (Gumroad takes 10% + $0.50 per paid sale, $0 on a free file, Gumroad pricing, October 2026) or a Drive link you actually want public. Then a second automation, on a later post, sends the paid course.
Paid enrollment. The cohort is open, or the course is evergreen. The URL is Teachable, Thinkific, Stan Store, or a Stripe Payment Link. Put ENROLL or JOIN on screen. If the page is not ready to take money, you are still on waitlist.
Coaches sending Calendly are on a different page: Instagram DM automation for coaches. Teachers sending a file they wrote are adjacent to digital products. Teachers sending a Stan storefront should read Stan Store vs Instagram DM automation after this, because Stan is the storefront and DM automation is still the delivery.
Email capture inside the DM is useful after they have the URL, not before. DM Automation Starter includes that capture. You can also let the waitlist form collect the email. Do not make a tired teacher-in-training fill two forms before they see the syllabus.
What should the first teaching DM say?
Keep it under four lines. The person is still on the Reel. They are not sitting down to read a 12-week outline.
A waitlist DM that works:
Here’s the waitlist for the April cohort: [form URL]
It’s six weeks, live on Tuesdays, recorded after. I’ll email you when enrollment opens.
A paid DM that works:
Here’s the enrollment page for the grammar cohort: [course URL]
Start date is 14 April. Refunds are on that page. Reply DATES if you need the timezone chart.
A DM that fails:
Hey bestie I just dropped my entire academy with 40 modules and a VIP mastermind and a community and also my Calendly for 1:1 please check the link in bio and join the broadcast channel.
One URL. One next step. If you have a free lesson and a paid cohort, use two keywords (LESSON and ENROLL), not one DM with two links.
Follow-ups belong on Starter and above, or on a flow editor. Send the URL first. Remind tomorrow only if they did not tap. Do not stack three “doors close tonight” messages in the first thread. That is how people mute you, and it is how a teaching account starts to look like a funnel account.
Instagram DM templates has shorter public-reply lines. Keep the public comment at “sent you the link” so the thread does not become identical novels.
How should a cohort launch week use stories?
Launch week is stories plus one pinned Reel, not a new carousel every hour.
Story 1: the outcome (“pass the exam, ship the portfolio, cook the menu”). Sticker: reply WAITLIST.
Story 2: the date and the timezone. Same keyword, same URL.
Story 3: a student result you have permission to share. Same keyword.
Story 4, if seats are actually limited: remaining seats, still the same URL. Do not invent scarcity.
Instagram story reply automation is the trigger setup. Point story replies at the same waitlist you used on the Reel unless the story is a different product (a 1:1 office-hour vs the group cohort). Two products, two keywords.
Live sessions work the same way if your tool supports Live triggers. InstantDM Legend Pro lists Live as a trigger. A Live Q&A should still send one URL, not a verbal “check my bio” at minute 47.
Is DM automation a course platform?
No. Your LMS still holds the lessons. Your payment page still charges the card. Stripe or PayPal process the enrollment fee. The automation tool sends the link.
If you do not have a course URL yet, stop and build the waitlist form first. Automating a missing page just sends people into a 404.
If you only have a Calendly, you might be a coach who also teaches. Use the coaches page for BOOK, this page for ENROLL. Mixing both in one DM (“book a call or join the course”) is how nobody does either.
Schools with a required portal login should send that portal URL, not a third-party checkout, if that is the only way a student can join. The tool does not care which domain you paste. The student does.
Is this safe for a teaching account?
It is safe when you use an official Instagram login, reply only to people who contacted you, and send a real course URL. It is not safe when a tool asks for your password, when you scrape student usernames, or when you DM a purchased list of “parents in this zip code.”
Related: Is Instagram DM automation safe? is the API vs password-tool line.
Minors complicate Instagram. If your course is for under-18 students, follow Instagram’s age rules and your local education advertising rules. Do not build automations that ask a child for a payment card in the first DM. Send the parent-facing enrollment page. This is not legal advice. It is the reason a kids’ art class should not run the same ENROLL flow as a $2,000 business cohort.
A Business or Creator account is required. Free Instagram DM automation walks through the free-plan limits on this site. 100 DMs/month is a test, not a launch week.
Common teacher DM mistakes
Sending the paid checkout while the Reel promised a free worksheet. People feel tricked. Match the keyword to the promise.
Leaving WAITLIST on after enrollment opened. Then you collect emails instead of taking money. Flip the keyword and the URL the morning doors open.
Using a personal account. The API will refuse it. Switch to Business or Creator first. It is free.
Buying a “mass DM” tool to message every commenter from last year. That is not comment-to-DM. That is how you get We suspect automated behavior.
Putting the whole syllabus in the DM. They are on a phone, in a notification. The landing page holds the syllabus. The DM holds the URL.
Running one keyword for two courses. “ENROLL” on a grid that sells IELTS and a sourdough class will send the wrong URL half the time. One Reel, one course, one keyword.
Ignoring timezone. A “Tuesday 7pm” with no city is a refund. Put the zone on the landing page and, if you must, in the DM.
Forgetting to turn the automation off when the cohort is full. Sending a checkout that says sold out is worse than a story that says sold out.
How much should a teacher budget?
Start at $0. DM Automation free is 100 DMs/month. LinkDM free is 1,000 DMs/month. ReplyRush free is 1,500 DMs/month without comment auto-reply. ManyChat free is 25 active contacts.
When 100 DMs is not enough, the paid starts we verified on 16 October 2026 are ReplyRush Lite at $10/month, InstantDM Legend Pro at $9.99/month billed yearly, DM Automation Starter at $19/month, LinkDM Pro at $19/month, Chatfuel Business at US$18/month billed yearly, and ManyChat Pro at $29/month billed yearly.
Do not buy Platinum+, Max, or Agency until a cheaper plan has actually run out. Teachers over-buy in week one of a launch. Pay for the spike after it happens.
The course platform is a separate bill. Teachable, Thinkific, and similar LMS prices are not this page. This page is the DM tool that sends people there.

FAQ
What is the best Instagram DM automation for teachers in 2026?
DM Automation first (this site: free 100 DMs/month, Starter $19/month). InstantDM second (Legend Pro $9.99/month billed yearly). ManyChat third if you need WhatsApp. After that, LinkDM Pro at $19/month for launch volume or Chatfuel from US$18/month yearly if the bot has to answer dates and refunds.
Can I send a Teachable or Thinkific link in an automated Instagram DM?
Yes. Comment-to-DM on an official API tool sends the course URL when someone comments a keyword. The LMS still hosts the lessons. Stripe or PayPal process the enrollment fee if you charge on that page. The automation tool sends the link.
Should I send a waitlist or the paid course?
Send the waitlist if doors are closed. Send the paid page if doors are open. Send a lesson PDF if the Reel promised a worksheet. Do not send all three in the first DM.
Is comment-to-DM allowed on Instagram?
Yes, through the official Messaging API, when you reply to people who commented, replied to a story, or messaged you. Cold DMs to people who never contacted you are not that feature. See Meta’s Instagram messaging docs.
How much does InstantDM cost for a teacher?
Legend Pro is $9.99/month billed yearly with unlimited DMs. Trendsetter is $24.99/month billed yearly. Trendsetter Pro is $49.99/month billed yearly (InstantDM pricing, October 2026). It sends course and payment links. It does not host the course or process the payment.
What keyword should I use on a teaching Reel?
One short word you also put on screen: ENROLL, WAITLIST, LESSON, or NOTES. Test from a second account. If people comment “notes” while you required “SYLLABUS,” you wrote the wrong keyword.
Will a launch week blow up my ManyChat bill?
It can. ManyChat prices active contacts. A spike of new people can move you up a tier even if each person got one DM. Flat DM buckets (DM Automation, InstantDM, LinkDM, ReplyRush) meter messages instead.
Can I automate Instagram DMs from a personal account?
No. Switch to Business or Creator first. It is free and takes under a minute. API tools cannot connect to a personal account.
Is this the same as coaching automation?
No. Coaching sends a booking link. Teaching sends a waitlist, lesson, or enrollment URL. Use the coaches page for BOOK.
