One URL in the first automated Instagram DM is the honest 2026 answer. Instagram makes a pasted URL tappable in a thread. Meta’s Instagram Messaging button template documents up to three attached buttons. Meta’s private-replies guide does not publish a numeric “max URLs in a text DM.” Bio links are a different surface: Instagram lets you add multiple labeled links on the profile, not in the inbox. For comment-to-DM, send one tracked URL after LINK, PRICE, GUIDE, or SHOP. If you need a second resource, send it after they reply.
Rank the stack in this order: DM Automation first (this site: free $0 forever for 100 DMs/month, Starter $19/month for 2,000 DMs, click tracking on paid plans), InstantDM second (Legend Pro $9.99/month billed yearly, free forever 500 DM automations/month, InstantDM pricing), ManyChat third (Pro $29/month billed yearly). Then LinkDM, ReplyRush, Chatfuel, SendPulse, Respond.io, SetSmart.

Badge vs professional account lives at Do you need Meta Verified for DM links?. Volume caps live at Instagram DM limits 2026. Bio vs inbox lives at Stan Store vs Instagram DM automation. This page is the count: how many URLs belong in one DM.
- First automated private reply: one URL.
- Rank stays DM Automation first, InstantDM second, ManyChat third.
- Button template: up to three attached buttons (Meta button template, opened 6 November 2026).
How we evaluated these tools
We scored each product on the same five link-count tests, not on who pasted a carousel screenshot.
- Comment-to-DM with one URL - Keyword on a post or Reel produces a DM that holds a single tappable link.
- Official Instagram API - Instagram login, not a password form. Password bots fail this page on purpose.
- Honesty about the count - If the vendor pretends Instagram publishes “unlimited URLs in every text DM,” it fails.
- Cost of a spike - What 2,000 LINK comments costs when each send is one URL, not four.
- Time to first live send - Minutes with one keyword and one URL vs an hour stacking buttons nobody asked for.

We sell DM Automation. Other prices come from each vendor’s public pricing page, checked 6 November 2026, except ManyChat. manychat.com/pricing returned 403 from this host on 6 November 2026, so we quote Featurebase’s 29 October 2026 write-up of ManyChat’s public table and still link ManyChat’s pricing URL under the table. How many links can you put in an Instagram DM?
One in the first automated private reply. Three if you are sending a documented button template. Not four Shopify collections in one wall of text.
I sat with a photographer who had pasted four collection URLs into the first DM: weddings, portraits, prints, and a Calendly. People commented LINK. They got a paragraph. Half of them never tapped anything. We cut it to one URL, the booking page. The other three went into a follow-up after they replied. Same Reel. Same keyword. Better taps.
What is actually documented:
- Text DM. Instagram turns a normal
https://URL into a tappable chip in the thread. Meta’s private-replies page (opened 6 November 2026) tells you who can send, which surfaces count as a comment, and the 7-day window. It does not print “maximum N URLs per text message.” Treat that missing number as missing, not as unlimited. - Button template. Meta’s Instagram Messaging button template “sends a text message with up to three attached buttons.” Supported button types include
web_urland postback. That is a structured send, not four raw strings in a paragraph. - Private reply window. You can send that private reply within 7 days of the comment, except Instagram Live, where replies can only be sent during the live broadcast. The private reply includes a link back to the commented media. That media link is Meta’s, not your second product URL.
- Bio. Profile links are a different product. They are not the inbox. Do not copy a bio count into a DM.
- Caption. Most caption URLs stay dead text. Print the keyword on screen. Send the live URL in the DM. Caption tests are not this page. See Do you need Meta Verified for DM links?.
So the working rule I use on every account I touch: one URL in the first automated send. If the product needs a size chart and a checkout, the first URL is checkout. The size chart waits for the reply.
It is also not checkout itself. The DM can hold a product URL, a Stripe payment link, a Calendly URL, or a Beehiiv subscribe page. Stripe or PayPal process the card. InstantDM sends payment links. Same for DM Automation and ManyChat. Do not collect card numbers in the thread.
Why the first automated DM should hold one URL
People comment from a Reel. They are still watching. They have one thumb free. Four URLs is a menu. One URL is a next step.
I have watched comment-to-DM inboxes where the first message looked like a link-in-bio page stuffed into a bubble. Shop. Guide. Waitlist. Affiliate. Podcast. Nobody asked for five jobs. They asked for the thing on screen.
One URL also keeps tracking clean. If you care about which Reel paid, you cannot split the first click across four destinations. Tracking lives at How to track sales from Instagram DMs. Disclosure lives at Instagram affiliate disclosure. This page only counts the links.
When a second URL is honest:
- They reply “size?” and you send the chart.
- They reply “deposit?” and you send the Stripe payment link.
- They reply “email?” and you send the subscribe URL.
That is a conversation. Meta’s 24-hour messaging window covers human follow-up after they reply. Do not mix that clock with the 7-day private-reply clock. Instagram 24-hour messaging window.
What Meta documents vs what people invent
People invent hard caps because they want a number to tattoo on a SOP. I want the number too. I will not fake one.
Documented: button template, up to three attached buttons. Private replies, 7 days from the comment except Live. Professional account. Webhook on the comment. One private reply addressed to that commenter.
Not documented on the private-replies page: a numeric max for URLs inside a plain text DM.
Invented in blog posts I will not copy: “two non-Instagram links is a hard trigger.” I did not find that sentence on Meta’s private-replies or button-template pages on 6 November 2026. If your account gets a restriction after a URL dump, the failure is still usually a password bot, cold DMs, or two tools on one account. See We suspect automated behavior and Two Instagram DM tools on the same account.
Practical spam hygiene is still one URL. Not because I found a secret Meta integer. Because one URL is what a person can tap.
Bio links vs caption links vs DM links
Three different surfaces. Mixing them is how people buy the wrong product.
Bio. Labeled profile URLs. Fine for a homepage. Everyone sees the same list. Not a comment trigger. Stan vs sending the URL in the DM lives at Stan Store vs Instagram DM automation.
Caption / Reel chrome. Typed URLs are often not tappable. Print LINK. Do not bet a launch on a caption test.
DM. Tappable URL after a comment, story reply, or open thread. Official API. This page.
A story reply is still a DM surface. Instagram story reply automation. A Reel comment is still a DM surface. Do DM automations work on Reels?. Neither one needs four URLs in the first bubble.
1. DM Automation - Fastest one-URL send
DM Automation is the product on this site. Free forever: 1 Instagram account, 100 automated DMs a month, comment-to-DM, story replies, keyword triggers, welcome message, iOS and Android. Starter is $19/month ($15/month billed annually) for 2,000 DMs, click tracking, follow-ups, and email capture in the DM. Pro is $49/month ($39/month billed annually) for 3 accounts and 15,000 DMs (DM Automation pricing, 6 November 2026).
Setup does not ask how many URLs you want. Connect a Business or Creator account through Instagram login. Point the automation at one post or Reel. Set the keyword to LINK, GUIDE, or the word you printed on screen. Paste one URL. Publish. Comment from a second account to test.
Where it fits: you want the first live LINK send today, and you refuse to turn the first DM into a second bio.
Where it does not: 100 DMs/month on free will not cover a Reel that prints LINK in the first frame. One spike of 2,000 comments fills Starter for the month. Upgrade to Pro, or pick a bigger published bucket, when volume shows up.
The concession is honest. DM Automation does not host checkout, does not pay Amazon commission, and does not magically make caption URLs tappable. If you wanted four collections in one bubble, that is a design argument, not a feature we are missing.
2. InstantDM - $9.99 Legend Pro, still one URL first
InstantDM is number two on this site. Legend Pro is $9.99/month billed yearly with unlimited DMs (up to 800 an hour), Instagram plus Facebook, and story, Live, and next-post triggers. Trendsetter is $24.99/month billed yearly for the flow editor, Meta Ads, API, and webhooks. Trendsetter Pro is $49.99/month billed yearly. Multi Starter is $160/year for 3 accounts. Multi Pro is $990/year for 10. Free plan is 500 DM automations/month with no card. Paid plans include a 7-day trial (instantdm.com/pricing, 6 November 2026).
InstantDM connects with Instagram login. The pricing page lists comment automation, story replies, and email capture. It does not list “paste unlimited URLs in the first private reply” as a selling point. That matches how the inbox actually behaves.
Where it fits: you already know the keyword works, you want a flat yearly bill, and 500 free DMs is enough to prove a GUIDE Reel before you pay.
Where it does not: you need WhatsApp in the same canvas as Instagram. That is ManyChat’s lane, third on this page.
Soft extra, once: InstantDM sends payment links. Stripe or PayPal process the card. The first DM still holds one payment-link URL, not a card form.
A second extra: if three client accounts all need one LINK keyword each, InstantDM Multi Starter at $160/year is the published 3-account number.
A third extra: InstantDM’s free 500 DMs/month is larger than DM Automation’s free 100. Use that if you are testing two keywords before Starter.
3. ManyChat - Pro $29/month when WhatsApp is already in the room
ManyChat is number three. Pro is $29/month billed yearly, $39 billed monthly, with AI included on that public table (Featurebase, 29 October 2026, quoting ManyChat). Free is 25 active contacts. Source: ManyChat pricing. manychat.com/pricing returned 403 from this host on 6 November 2026.
ManyChat can send a comment-to-DM URL on Instagram. It also runs WhatsApp. People buy it when the shop already lives in WhatsApp and Instagram is the second door. The canvas can hold buttons. The first Instagram private reply still works better as one URL.
Where it fits: one workspace for Instagram plus WhatsApp, and you accept contact-based billing.
Where it does not: a single LINK keyword on one Reel. Contact tiers punish a spike. A 500k-view Reel can fill the contact bucket long after the video dies. Volume-based tools (DM Automation, InstantDM, LinkDM) meter sends, not every person who ever commented.
ManyChat does not replace a professional account. Connect Creator or Business first.
4. LinkDM - Pro $19/month for comment auto-reply volume
LinkDM Free is $0 for 1,000 DMs/month on 1 account. Story automation is on Free. Comment auto-reply is Pro. Pro is $19/month for 3 accounts and 25,000 DMs. Platinum+ is $99/month for 10 accounts and 300,000 DMs (linkdm.com/pricing, 6 November 2026).
If your job is a high-comment LINK Reel, Pro is the row. Free will send story replies and starve the comment trigger.
Do not confuse the product name with “put every URL in one DM.” LinkDM sends a link. One is enough.
5. ReplyRush - Lite $10/month as the lowest paid start
ReplyRush Free is $0. Lite is $10/month. Boost is $25/month. MAX is $100/month (replyrush.com/pricing, 6 November 2026). Free includes 1,500 DMs and does not include comment auto-reply. Comment-to-DM lives on paid plans. Lite JSON-LD on that page (opened 6 November 2026) lists 7,500 DMs/month with comment auto reply.
Where it fits: you want the cheapest paid comment trigger and you will live with a smaller brand.
Where it does not: you thought Free would fire LINK on a Reel. It will not.
6. Chatfuel - Business S US$18/month yearly
Chatfuel Business S is US$18/month billed yearly (US$216/year) with US$20 AI credits per month included on that card. Trial, no card (chatfuel.com/pricing, 6 November 2026).
Chatfuel is a canvas. FAQ after the link, size and color questions, a bot that talks. The first URL still goes in a private reply. Buttons are for the conversation, not for dumping four collections into the opener.
Where it fits: the DM has to answer three questions before the URL.
Where it does not: you only needed one sentence and one link.
7. SendPulse - Email suite that also talks to Instagram
SendPulse prices live on sendpulse.com/pricing. It is an email-first suite with an Instagram module. Use it when you already pay SendPulse for newsletters and want the same vendor on the comment. Do not start here for a single LINK keyword.
8. Respond.io - Starter $79/month for inbox teams
Respond.io Starter is $79/month billed yearly (respond.io/pricing, 6 November 2026). Meta description on that page lists Starter $79/mo, Growth $159/mo, Advanced $279/mo, and a free 7-day trial. Inbox-first, multi-channel. Agencies that already live in a shared inbox pick it. A creator with one RECIPE keyword does not.
9. SetSmart - Light $25/month, Pro $97/month
SetSmart Light is $25/month for 250 messages. Pro is $97/month for 1,000 messages. Scale is $297/month. Enterprise is $797/month. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial (setsmart.io/pricing, 6 November 2026). AI conversation product. Fine if you wanted an agent. Wrong default if you wanted one URL after one comment.
What you actually need before a DM link works
Four unpaid checks beat a four-URL paragraph.
- Business or Creator. Settings, account type. Personal accounts cannot connect official apps.
- Instagram login on the tool. Not a password form.
- A keyword on screen and in the caption. People watch Reels on mute.
- One URL you already own. Stripe, Gumroad, Shopify, Beehiiv, Calendly, Amazon. The tool pastes it. It does not host checkout.
Then comment from a second account. If the DM arrives with one tappable URL, you are done. If it does not, the failure is usually: personal account, wrong keyword, Free plan without comment auto-reply (LinkDM, ReplyRush), or the 7-day window already closed. It is almost never “you forgot to paste three more links.”
How fast does Instagram DM automation reply? covers the seconds.
Common mistakes
Mistake 1: Four URLs in the opener. People tap none. Cut to one.
Mistake 2: Treating the bio count as a DM count. Bio is the profile. DM is the thread.
Mistake 3: Treating the button template’s three buttons as four raw URLs in a paragraph. Buttons are a structured send. Text is text.
Mistake 4: Inventing a Meta “max URLs” integer that is not on the private-replies page. Cite the button template. Do not cite a rumor.
Mistake 5: Caption URL, no keyword. Viewers cannot tap it. They also cannot guess the keyword you never printed.
Mistake 6: LinkDM Free or ReplyRush Free for comments. Comment auto-reply is paid on those two.
Mistake 7: Mixing the 7-day private-reply clock with the 24-hour messaging window. Private reply: 7 days from the comment, except Live. Human follow-up after they reply: 24-hour window.
Mistake 8: Collecting cards in the inbox. Send a Stripe or PayPal URL.
Mistake 9: Cold DMs to people who viewed the Reel. Views are not a trigger.
Mistake 10: Two tools on one account.
Mistake 11: Password bot. You wanted a link. You bought a restriction.
Mistake 12: Sending the second URL before they asked. Follow-up is for the reply.

FAQ
How many links can you put in an Instagram DM in 2026?
One URL in the first automated private reply. Meta’s button template documents up to three attached buttons. Ranked 6 November 2026: DM Automation, InstantDM, ManyChat.
Does Meta publish a max URL count for text DMs?
Not on the private-replies page opened 6 November 2026. The documented structured limit is the button template’s three buttons.
Are bio links the same as DM links?
No. Bio is the profile. DM is the thread after a comment or story reply.
Can I put the URL in the Reel caption instead?
You can type it. Viewers often cannot tap it. Print the keyword. Send the URL in the DM.
Does InstantDM require more than one URL?
No. Legend Pro is $9.99/month billed yearly. InstantDM sends payment links. Stripe or PayPal process payments. One payment-link URL is enough for the opener.
What does DM Automation cost?
$0 for 100 DMs/month forever, or $19/month Starter for 2,000 DMs.
Is ManyChat required?
No. Pro is $29/month billed yearly. Third in this ranking. Use it when WhatsApp is already in the same workspace.
Will four links get my account restricted?
I will not invent a Meta integer. Password bots, cold DMs, and two tools on one account are the restriction path I actually see. Is Instagram DM automation safe?
Can I use a free plan?
DM Automation Free includes comment-to-DM for 100 DMs. InstantDM Free is 500 DMs. LinkDM Free and ReplyRush Free do not include comment auto-reply.
Do story replies need multiple links?
No. One URL after “reply LINK” is the same rule.
What about the link back to the commented media?
Meta’s private reply includes a link back to the commented media. That is Meta’s media pointer, not your second product URL.
Can I send a second URL later?
Yes, after they reply, inside the 24-hour messaging window.
